No movies break even. The studios report every release as a massive loss. They don't have to pay taxes that way. Hollywood only exists as a parasite clinging to the American taxpayer.

This is why:

Aliens at this point in history is more of a cult classic. Most going people don't recognize the franchise or care. Older audiences aren't largely die hard fans. Promotion for the film want terribly great. Hardcore fans were ready to hate it and did so the fandom certainly wasn't hyping it either.

Despite this, I thought it was pretty decent.
