I have a theory that Jeremy mostly pretends to be stupid, or at least intentionally limits himself, for attention/as a result of constant pot use. He has plenty of moments of lucidity and a sophisticated vocab at times.

Jeremy's thick as shit and generally doesn't care about consequences, he's amoral but hardly a bad person, even though he's a terrible freeloading friend.

Mark's worse because he knows exactly what he's doing. He has almost entirely selfish motives, but is too much of a worm to face an issue head-on. Like, instead of dumping Sophie, he spent a good part of a year leading her on and pussying out AT THE ALTER because he's a massive bellend.

Mark's the worst, no question.

In the beginning of the show they were on the same line. They were evil, but not by their own fault. Jez was stupid and Mark socially inept. By the end Mark was a sociopath but Jez was still stupid.
