Was he ever gone?

Yes. The Last Airbender and After Earth were certainly "gone" in this sense and you could argue it started with Lady in the Water.

>people don't remember The visit
(((The critics))) can't put down shamadongalong forever.

Still made 2x + profit on every movie bar the lady in the water

Well 2005-2015 was a decade long dryspell so yeah.
Surprised After Earth and Airbender made that much money back however. Terrible.

as someone who directed quality features, yes. as someone who earned money, no. seems he works best with a limited budget. no doubt people got rich from his last two movies.
Thanks OP, I was planning to see this movie. Didn't notice shyamalan did it.

Quality is subjective, money is real
>>80092325
indeed. however, turn in a series of subpar features and audiences will dwindle. however, M. Night seems to be immune to that. also, i'm surprised Unbreakable earned that much money since at the time i remember Night said he wouldn't make a sequel b/c he didn't feel the love from audiences box office wise. i guess the figure on wiki includes other revenue streams - dvd, cable, streaming.
