Barriston Selmy never died to the harpy. He's a more prominent character with his own chapters.

Doran Martell isn't dead(yet), and Dorne has a lot more details than the show bothers to explore. Especially regarding Doran's daughter, Arianne Martell, who appears to be the centerpiece of the Dorne plot. However, shoe's completely missing from the show. The whole Dorne plot was truncated, and killed off.

Roose Bolton isn't dead(yet), and is likely too cunning and strong than to die to a simple shiv in the chest.

Missandei and Greyworm aren't romantically interested in each other. And Tyrion drinking and joking with them wasted precious time that could have been used fleshing out more important aspects of the story. The scene was pointless.

Yara and Danny teaming up happened way to fast. The Ironborn are essentially glorified pirates. And in two second, Yara accepts the terms to go completely against the culture, promising no more raiding and reaving.

Sansa isn't strong and confident.(yet) She's still quite dependent, but she's learning. Also her storyline is going in a COMPLETELY different direction.

And then the final 4 shots, are essentially shallow fanservice, which only works if your throw out all logic. But still... All those things are likely to eventually occur in the book anyway. Only is a smarter manner.

They aren't the pinnacle but it's certainly a better Dorne story than the show did. The Sand Snakes aren't a focal point at all. They only matter as far as their relationship to Arianne. It's also weird that Ellaria is a giant cunt who is a warmonger while in the book she is peaceful and thinks that Dorne constantly trying to get back at the Lannisters is just costing more and more Dornish lives, including Oberyn's.

It's like they smashed together Ellaria and Arianne, robbed the character of any intellect and made these minor WIMMINS the focal point of that arc. It's just pointless and boring. The Arianne chapters (especially that newest one with the blind white fish and other nods to COTF and shit) actually have substance. Martin can be too subtle at times but if you read those chapters carefully, there is A LOT happening. It's just from her POV so it reads from her (minor) concerns rather than the big picture. You have to read between the lines and catch the stuff she's missing. It's the same in Dany's ADWD chapters. There is plenty going on but she's a young girl and not paying attention. It's there for you though. Just don't look at it from the POV you're reading. Ask the questions they don't pay attention to while you're reading it and you'll get answers they're too dumb/self absorbed to see.

I think D&D also read those chapters too close to the POV. They took it at face value from that character and didn't see past it. The big picture is obviously there but if you're not careful it can be easy to miss. You would expect someone trusted to adapt it to read a little more carefully.
