Literally just got back from the cinema seeing this. What a surprise that when marvel breaks their shitty origins cookie cutter formula, it's a box office hit that I end up liking

They were mercs working for a genetics corporation.

What I like to say is, it's not a Superhero movie, it's a movie with superheroes in it.

Marvels actual comics are complete dogshit, they are fucking tanking. Trust me when I say even the worst capeshit film is better than the pathetic garbage they push out as "comic books". They do not matter in the slightest, they do not pull in 1% of what these movies are making. Not denying the mouse wouldn't love to get his grubby hands on the X-Men.
>>

>>
>>80006530
Yeah the gore and fight scenes were pretty gud. Best scene was the first x-24 fight, him and Logan just tearing each other apart was great, lived how he was just prime wolverine on adrenaline.
>>
>>80006273
The details are mostly the same in intent/tone while the specifics are different.

Laura is technically not X-23 as such - "X-23" is an entire batch of mutants created from different mutants genetic material implanted into a host mothers. Laura's mother isn't Sarah Kinney or a person working on the project, she's unknown.

Funnily enough Laura is specifically listed as X-23-23. The standard things like her being made to be a weapon, had her claws coated with Adamantium, etc. still apply.

The X-23 line was considered a failure and all the mutants it created ordered to be terminated because while they assumed children would be easy to program as amoral killers, it didn't work. The kids didn't want to hurt people, rebelled, etc.

They replace it with X-24
>>
So why did the bullet kill X-24?
It fucking brained the dude.

In Origins, Logan gets shot in the head 3 times with the same adamantium bullets and they didn't even pierce his skull at point-blank range.

Comics:
X-23 was born in the Weapon-X program and a female doctor was forced to give birth to her.
Sabretooth and Logan aren't closely related. Common ancestry defintely considering how one of Logan's kids came out, but not brother or father. Dog Logan, pic-related, is Logan's half-brother, isn't a mutant. He got his hands on some time-crystals and continued to hunt him until he got over that.

Movie:
X-23's origin didn't go through many changes, just replace Weapon X with whatever that corporation is, throwout her family in Texas, and ignore her past as a prostitute and her pimp Zebra Daddy.
Sabretooth and Dog are the same person.

There was a group on the Canadian side of the border waiting for the mutant kids. That's who they were talking to on the radio.

The armed merc cyborgs (reavers) could not enter into canada to get them if they made it across. They only had jurisdiction in Mexico and the USA.

Speaking of the reavers, they were a lot less cybernetic than I was expecting. Pierce in the comics was full cyborg, as were half of his men. In the movie they just looked like war amputees with a prosthetic limb here and there.

Yes, to make fun over how shit it was.

I don't think he is dead. When the other kids get there his body isn't on the ground. Maybe he's still alive but his programming got washed away when he got shot.

Pretty much just a mid-length Deadpool 2 teaser where they parody Superman. They actually got the Superman theme in there too. He makes a joke about how Wolverine wouldn't have had to change costumes if he were there.
>>
>>80008366

It was more than that. The mexican police literally worked for the company. Those were mexican federal police serving as the minions in that first battle, and they took orders from Peirce.

In America the CIA and American soldiers also answered to that same corportation (Pierces boss was in charge).

In this future mexico was like the 51st state. American special interests had total control over both countries.
>>
>>80008473

there was no deadpool scene, it was just him killing a bunch of cholos

>>
>>80008467
>Someone fill me in with the Deadpool cameo? Missed it.

It was like a deadpool mini-movie, only it took place in pseudo-1980s NYC for some reason. The cars, garbage truck, and phone booth were very dated and deadpool is making fun of this.

The Deadpool thing was definitely US-only as well, they didn't add it over here

I saw it at a normal theater. Audience cheered out loud when deadpool first apeared, and cheered again at the naked ass shot, and cheered again when the deadpool thing ended.

Also people yelled out "YEAAAAA!" when the graffiti said "nathan summers is cumming". That is not a typo buy the way.

>They explained how the artificial mutants were created
>they explained the meaning of the comic book
>they explained why logan was keeping professor x heavily drugged up and confused

It's implied on the radio after the Oklahoma city incident. They blatantly say that it was similar to the Westchester incident where multiple humans and mutants died.
>>
>>80004622

I nearly pissed laughing at Professor X's death, that clone plot was so fucking stupid
>>
>>80008893
>>80008975
okay but what about the rest of them, like the ones in india or china or russia or whatever, just the mutants everywhere else. and why did they stop being born?
>>
>>80008975
The radio said 7 mutants to be specific.
>>
How buff is Jackedman in this?
>>
>>80008893
Yes. After the casino incident, the news report on the radio they're listening to in the car says something along he lines of "reports estimate 400 wounded, in almost the same circumstances as the incident in Westchester a year a go that wounded 600, and killed 7 members of the X-" before Logan switches it off

Pierce also mentions at one point how Xavier has officially been designated a weapon of mass destruction.
>>
>>80009016
The company hunting Laura and the rest of the kids created a pathogen to stop mutants from being born. The kids in Mexico city were engineered from old DNA samples of mutants like logan
>>
Everyone else is typing how sad they we're during the whole thing but I actually only got sad once the credits rolled and we heard the Joohny Cash song. It seemed really oddly fitting

Who here was hit in the feels after this movie? Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine for 20 years now. Some of us grew up with him. Watching him die in this miserable state was very depressing. But it was a good end.
>>
>>80009862
Charles' death was more painful, wolverine wanted to die
>>
I genuinely do not understand how he died. His regenerative abilities should've saved him from literally everything they threw at him in the movie. What a load of bullshit.

>>
>>80009862
17, but Hugh Jackman is a good actor and some of his best movies have been unrelated to Xmen, like Real Steel, The Fountain, and Prisoners. I hope he's still going to be in movies
>>
>>80009933
>the whole point of the movie is him losing his regenerative powers, as seen by the fact that he's aging
>HURRR WHY HE NO HEAL?
This is the Marvel audience.
>>
>>80008329
in reality, the way they were in the movie would probably be what a cyborg would actually be. comic book reavers had a guy who is literally half a tank., treads and all.
>>
>>80009918
Charle's death was sad but what I found more sad about Charles was that even in his miserable state he still held out for hope in probably the most hopeless situation any comic character has ever seen. He killed his own students, he killed the X-Men, all mutants are extinct now, his caretakers were two suicidal mutants who were formally friends and one who used to HELP hunt mutants down, he has seizures and either dimentia or alzeimers. Yet he still had hope and was secretly using his powers to help guide these mutants to safety.

Logan was already dead inside. A reminder to readers how no matter how much Logan heals, he can never heal his heart from all the pain and memories.
>>
>>80010002
Why did he start aging? Isn't he hundreds of years old?
>>
>>80009933
he said something about being poisoned by the adamantium

>>80010003

>>
>>80010003

>>
>>80009933
Besides the fact that hes very old now, his Adamantium has always been poisoning him all this time. It is also implied that the stuff used to wipe mutants out had an affect on already existing Mutants. It is possible that this made Charles powers unstable along with Logans healing.
>>
>>80010102

i recall that in the comics, after magneto pulled the adamantium out of logan, his mutant ability made him even more feral, which his powers do.
and he lost like a hundred pounds of metal, making him more agile

He probably would've been able to heal from the battle with x-24 if he didn't inject himself full of the green stuff, would've absolutely been captured though

Somebody explain to me right fucking now why didnt the reavers just killed the children?

Everyone explicitly state that their mission is to KILL THEM. They were going to be put to sleep in the mexico facility and they escaped now they had to die. So why didnt they shot every kid at the border?

Also if a SINGLE adamantium bullet could off Wolverine and kin. Why werent the bad guys carrying adamantium bullets? Hell it didnt even have to be their main weapon, just have a magazine in the back of the truck in case of a real emergency.

I mean I really want to like this film but i cant do it with so many glaring plotholes

Because it's incredibly rare. Everything else is juat shitty writing though

I wanted to see what it would take to kill X-24. The first fight on the farm was so cash, but at the climax of the movie that green shit wore off after he killed like a dozen or so dudes. Logan should have faced X-24 head on while still amped up on the medicine, having to tear him to shreds to the point where he can't regenerate. The adamantium bullet was predictable and hamfisted, not to mention a huge plothole.

Bullshit. I know its rare but we're talking a multi billion dollar company which managed to single handedly distribute gene therapy shit to castrate a race and youre telling me they didnt have some spare adamantium from x-23 and x-24 implants to create the ONLY weapon in their universe known to be a 100%surefire way to kill mutants with healing factor?

Its also pretty stupid that the mercs didnt immediately raided the dakota compound as soon as agent Murphy saw the coordinates. Youd expect the multibillion dollar evil conglomerste to have some choppers and forces available country wide. Also who was waiting for the kids? Wy would they be safe in Canada? This movie failed to resolve every plot point it introduced.
>>
real logal, who takes from comic book logan, is basically a master of hundreds of years of hand to hand combat, i was honestly hoping the green stuff would have left logan on equal par with evil logan, and basically he just obliterates him within five seconds.
then bends his neck back and slides his claws through the space between his adamantium spine and his head drops to the ground, beyond the scope of his regeneration

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cZqRzHnI8s
>>
>>80011254
honestly up until that point I found that it was decent, minus the mexican compound fight scene and chase. But the point where they end up revealing, and then healing the clone was just taken too far. It was then that I realized that its going to be one of those kinds of finales. The adamantium bullet and the green juice was borderline insulting to the audience, and the chase scene through the woods was actually excruciatingly bad

The movie itself is 8/10, but I give it a lot of credit for going the direction it did. I think in 20 years, when capekino is the norm, we'll look back and think Logan is laughably outdated. But it's a trailblazer in the genre for sure.

Same deal as the original movie from 2000. Pretty quaint if you watch it nowadays but you can tell for sure that it was ahead of its time.

I loved the Statue of Liberty line. You think it's just Xavier having an alzheimer's moment if you remember the first movie but they don't make it all that blatant.

I wondered if they were going to have the balls to actually have Logan live and still retire the character. An ending where he lives and just acts as a surrogate dad to a bunch of a orphans, or at least just Laura, and moves past his life of violence, was equally viable with how the movie was written. He gets a new family, after his old one was taken; Charles is right with there still being time for him to experience a good life, and Logan shows Laura that despite her roots as a biological weapon who has spent the entire movie killing peole in a rage-fueled rampage, you can move past your "mold," the theme the cowboy movie injected.

You even get to preserve the metaphor bullshit of Laura literally saving him from his rage-filled murderer side.

But nah, they just killed him.

probably my biggest complaint is taking a superhero movie, an inherently childish genre, and playing it completely straight through what's basically a western, which I dont really have much of a problem with. But then at the same time falling for the same hackneyed problems that every super hero movie has (gratuitous but meaningless violence, the literal evil clone, the super green juice), but doing it with zero irony or self awareness.

If it was a non-superhero movie, id find it mediocre and uninspired at best. That it finds a way to insert the worst parts of the super hero genre made it tough to watch

Killing off a character that makes a shitload of money is the coward's way of retiring the character, because that stupid greed impulse in their brains and succumbing to retard audiences will always result in more movies of that character being made, unless the studio has the balls to actually stick to their guns of "This character's story is finished."

Of course, the only thing you seem to have thought about is the tone of a "happily ever after" vs. "so tragic!" ending. Apparently just the tone of it makes it good or bad, and not cohesiveness with the rest of the story or execution.

And I never watched Dexter all the way through because the bits I caught with my roommates looked terrible.

The main character is an anglo-saxon white man, though.
>>
>>80012292
Exactly, because browns aren't smart enough to cook up superhumans. Get your shit together.
>>
You know I was just thinking, wouldn't it be cool if Marvel killed off every here that we've known and loved for years and replaced every single one of them with a woman or a minority. That would be great. They should really do that. I'm sure it will make everyone happy and it will show that Marvel is progressive and tolerant.

Triggered much fancy boy?
>>

A lot of americans think hispanic=latino because our government documents all say "hispanic/latino". And the ones who live basically anywhere other than the East Coast think all hispanics are brown because the only latinos they meet are mexicans.
>>
>>80012318
Also, Xavier was flat out killing civilians with his seizures. They would rightfully be seen as the bad guys.
>>
>>80012256
weren't most of the mercs also mexican?
>>
>>80012328
Maybe they'll make Captain America and Spider-Man into black guys?!

Oh wait....
>>
>>80012353
No, literally all evil white men.
>>
>>80012088
The movie as a whole is a commentary on how shitty relationships between the US and Mexico (caused by both sides) are making the lives of regular immigrants in the US worse.
The wiping out of the mutants in the Logan timeline is slower and more subtle, but it's still insidious. It's not the trail of tears, it's more like a world where "well you're a mutant so your sentence is doubled from what it would normally be" is the norm.

>>80012370
no in the first action scene you can hear them speaking spanish when they're saying they need her alive or dead
>>
>>80012370
Evil white men speaking fluent spanish? Mexico does have a white minority.
>>
>>80012389
Lots of white people can speak spanish, junior
>>
>>80012256
>It's funny, there wasn't a single non white villain in the whole movie. They were literally all white, and one of the lead villains was blonde.

Donald pierce was blonde in the comics too, and he was a leader of a hate group and a mass murderer.

His cybrog mercenaries (the reavers) were all white in the comic too.
>>
>Hurr durr we eliminated mutants by manipulating breakfast cereal.

And I'm assuming the rest of the cast is dead because of Xavier.
>>
>>80012417
You don't say but that doesn't change the fact that they weren't white
>>
>>80012427

That's cool. At least they're consistent with their anti white racist propaganda.
>>
>>80012434
But they were. All played by white guys too.
>>
>>80012353
The mexican federales were helping them during the first raid in the old house. Appearantly bc she escaped a government facility but they were probably paid off too. Theyre total tools desu. Ive also paid them off before
>>

You should be encouraging all your Mexicans to go to Canada instead of the USA.

In the scenes in mexico the reavers were working alongside the mexican federal police. All the guys with the G36 rifles were mexicans.

The GMO high fructose corn syrup was engineered to wipe out mutants. The bad guy literally explained this right before Logan shoots him in the head.
>>
>>80012508
this is a lot of projecting. i mean, i can actually imagine the writer just having a pretend argument with himself
>>
>>80012516
No one, thats why comics are losing money hand over fist.
>>
>>80012508
The same people who have been writing comics are still writing comics. And just as always, they don't know how to write women. This time it's just on the other side of the coin.

X men origins is officially non canon.
Not even an alternate deleted timeline like what happened with the original trilogy. Origins is straight up non canon, Singer didnt bother to officially retcon it.

Nah dude, nah. We're peaking right now, in these years, it's either this or less with an occasional outlier homerun when the right talent meets.

So is the anti mutant chemical still circulating in the world or did it stop and mutants will come back

She has them for the same reason a female lion has claws on her back legs. They're there as a back up. If she isn't able to use her main claws, she can use those.
>>
>>80012794
Besides that, she did rip up 24 with them at the end. She's just so quick it's hard to notice.
>>
Who will they cast as teen femwolverine in the inevitable sequel?
>>
>>80012765
Laura was drinking that energy drink she stole. Corn syrup is in damn near everything. That was the whole point of the scene with those huge harvesters on the property adjacent to the family farm.
>>
>>80007066
We in this reality also make fictional works about things that really happened.
