I read this big thing about how The Hobbit production was a mess because Del Toro left and Jackson came back but the studio refused to push the release date. And on top of that they requested a trilogy which was never planned for by the writers/pre production team. So everything was a super rushed mess. According to Jackson they didn't have props for a lot of scenes and they would arrive on set without any storyboards some days. While I don't think they're great movies I think it's pretty impressive that they're not abysmally awful. I think it really speaks to Jackson's skill that he was able to make something at least entertaining/watchable.

3. Legolas slides down an elephant trunk

How did Hackson manage to turn all this amazing concept art into sparkly generic action shit?

My ideal Hobbit is just one movie where the action is mostly lowkey and the tension slowly builds and it is actually loyal to the book, but damn what a payoff a 10 minute climactic battle with this stuff would be.

I think the worst parts of the Hackson Trilogy were

>added fighting early on (talk about ruining Bilbo's arc)
>added fighting on the river
>almost no Beorn
>added wood elves nonsense
>added plot nonsense at the city
>Dwarf battle with Smaug

You could chuck out all of that and just have this one giant battle at the end as payoff
