Why couldnt they just share the pod half and half so they'd be like 60-70 at arrival?

Also this movie was a shitshow
>>

I thought it was fine. There were some parts I found unintentionally hilarious, but otherwise it was a solid movie with okay performances all throughout.

Also I like to think they probably had a kid and put them in the pod.

They'd have to spend too much time alone and would probably become suicidal, Chris Pratt contemplated suicide after a year, they also live in absolute luxury on the ship, the life of a king is preferable to the life of a colonist debt slave for a megacorporation.

There are also health risks associated with suspended animation, Laurence Fishbourne got mega cancer from his faulty pod.

What they should have done is climb into the pod together and use a robot to activate it, or build another pod since there were spare parts for everything.
>>
>>79939780
what, instead of being two beautiful people living in a luxury cruise for the rest of their lives?
>>
The movie was terrible, not just for the shitty plot, but the premise was entirely too dumb to suspend disbelief.

>ship starts to experience major malfunctions that will eventually lead to its destruction
>0 failsafes for when this happens
>only reason the entire ship didn't explode and all 5000 of its passengers didn't die is because ONE pod opened early that happened to belong to an engineer who got lonely
>AND within the same time period another pod that just so happened to belong to a member of the crew opened early
>all of this happening within a year in the potential 120 years of transit AND within the exact time of critical engine failure

>>
>>79940233
To be fair even currently we can't do much if an undetected meteor were to hit a rocket.

I assume at some point people ran the costs and numbers and decided yeah we're willing to take a risk.

Though if it were to ever be possible in real life chances are there would be some stopovers ever 10 years or so for maintenance.
>>
they should have had her refuse to kill Pratt, he sacrifices himself anyway to save the ship, the skip to a year later with a feral unwashed Jlaw on the edge of insanity faced with the same decision he had, do you doom someone else to spend their lifetime on the ship with you in order to stop yourself going crazy/an heroing?
>>
wouldn't they have to vent the reactor again every few years?

Remember that part when they get into the engine room and she's like "we should wake up the crew" and he says "no there's no time". How the fuck do you know that, are you an engineer?
>>
>>79940233
It's more plausible than you're making it out to be. I'm pretty sure any scumbag would eventually open another pod.

The first hit with the giant meteor created the cascade of minor malfunctions that led to the events, which does make a bit more sense because it's essentially how computers fail.

The only completely unbelievable thing is that they could have actually stopped it. Even three years of straight read books on the spaceship wouldn't give you enough information on how to fix it.
>>
The ending was fucking retarded just based on the fact that two people in complete isolation would get sick of each other in like a month. The idea that they spent 60-70 years together without one of them wanting to get into the pod is garbage
>>
>>79940374
they only had to vent it because the broken ship was creating excess plasma, as they fixed the original error there wont be any additional plasma generated, therefore no need for any more venting.
>>
>>79940374
it takes days for someone who just woke up to be able to function

reactor was gonna blow up soon
>>
>>79940470
they obviously fucked like rabbiits the whole time and made some new people to talk to. The dirty secret of this movie is that their children would obviously have begun fucking each other.
>>
Why didn't they simply concoct a scheme to awaken another person and trick them into putting both of them into stasis and transferring them to the pods, after which the robots would quietly kill and dispose of the patsy?
>>
Is this at all cool sci-fi or is it just some stupid relationship drama that happens to be set in space?
>>
>>79940575
desu it was much more scifi than expected, but theres still a lot of relationship shit
>>
>>79940233
That's because the ship's main computer was damaged and the workload was dumped onto the support systems that didn't have enough processing power to handle it on top of their primary tasks.

The crew probably would have been woken up if the ship could actually complete a damage assessment but it kept burning out processors from 100% utilisation every day, all the time and having to start over.
>>
>>79940540
> they rest of the ship wakes up in 80 years time
>find the ship overrun with 4th generation inbred fucks boning in a giant pile, there's no food left and everyone staves to death in the 4 months left until they get to the planet.
>>
>>79939964
>They'd have to spend too much time alone and would probably become suicidal
But they wouldn't because 1. They'd know that there was someone they would be able to spend time with after 45 years
2. They could leave each other diaries that they write every day to emulate conversation

True, men don't mess around.
That's why more men die to suicide than women.
Men pick no-nonsense methods of killing themselves.

Women just slit their wrists a little and/or overdose on a couple of pills 90% of the time.

What annoyed me about this movie is that Chris Pratt's character has access to infinite booze, food, robot helpers, VR simulations, games, gym facilities etc. and he can't even last 6 months without crying and growing a beard. I fucking laughed when he said "I was alone.... for a YEAR". Reminds me of when One Punch Man reveals his exercise regime.

Well, the context is very rapey. He intentionally brought her out of stasis and thought there was no way on-ship to return to stasis when he did so. He stalked her before doing this. He created a false context when she came out of stasis and commanded the bartender robot to lie to prevent her from learning about what he did. Within this false context, PIV sex occurred. He never revealed the truth - his victim had to find out from the robot, accidentally. He may have never revealed the truth. After the fact, she felt violated.

He not only murdered his victim, but groomed her out of stasis to believe a false reality and took sexual advantage.

Rape? Well, maybe you could argue not. Rapey? Definitely. At the very least.

>and took sexual advantage
That's where you make a jump of logic. They had sex. That's it. He woke her, he didn't told her the truth and they had sex. It was mutually pleasant sex. In this context "taking advantage" is empty of meaning. Any mutually pleasant sex is to the advantage of every participant involved. Masturbation is an advantage of a sexual nature that someone can take and it doesn't even involve another person.

I couldn't get into this movie.

Loved the graphics and appearance of the ship. But there were just too many plot-holes.

You have advanced humans who have mastered interstellar travel, artificial intelligence..... and yet they don't have a single contingency plan for if one of the pod's is woken prematurely? NOT ONE SINGLE CONTINGENCY???

"The pods are flawless" ... BULLSHIT!

Either have numerous backup pods, or wake up the fucking pod expert and demand he put you back in.

To receive an advantage is not a crime. We receive advantages everyday. Every instance of mutually pleasant sex can be described as two people receiving an advantage. These words mean nothing. We should use words that have meanings. The word manipulation has a clear meaning. It is simple to recognize. The main male character of this movie committed manipulation. Manipulation can be a terrible crime. Some lies can have devastating effects, some lies can destroy someone's life, some lies can cause an entire population to suffer torture and death. To call something manipulation is not an attempt to make it look like a weaker crime. It is simply an attempt to describe something adequately.

Let's look at this another way: what happens when two characters are manipulative and have sex? What if the female character had a secret, what if the male character discovered it and then said he would never had sex with her if he knew. Was he raped? Did they rape each other? I can't help but feel that it is is a completely frivolous use of the word. Learning something you don't like about your sexual partner does not retroactively makes it rape. It is a problem for actual rape victims to use the word improperly.
>>
>>79942985
And don't forget: 1 bar. At one point they took turns to spend time with the bartender robot, as if the ship with 5000 people did not have another bar. Feels like the ship was designed for a capacity of 50 passengers.

I loathed this film, it could have actually surprised me and had Chris Pratt (playing Chris Pratt), dying in the end - then Jennifer Lawrence (playing JLaw), would experience and understand the loneliness that Pratt endured. She would ultimately forgive him, but it's too late. then end on her deciding whether to wake up a male passenger or not.

Shit ending or nah?

Worst flick I've seen in years and the epitome of Hollywood. Just jacked ideas from far better movies Gravity, The Shining, etc. and casted 2 big attractions to pull Hunger Games and GotG children to the theater. Pratt's humor, while usually good, seemed forced and unfunny. Lawrence is garbage per usual and I just can't look at her the same after the fappening. I expected Science Fiction from the trailer and ended up watching a vapid Space Romance for 120 minutes...thank God this top shit didn't break even at the box office.
>>
>>79943231
Yea i was hoping this would happen as well, but it seems like they added an ending that worked better with the test-audiences. That combined with the extremely dull pop-song at the end really left a bad aftertaste in my mouth.
>>
>>79940309
>trip at .3c
>stop overs

Nah, it would be far too costly in terms of deltav to stop and start again, even if the stops refueled the ship. It would also vastly increase the time it takes, because instead of being able to accelerate to much higher speeds by thrusting away from earth the first half and then reversing, it has to stop and start over and over again. That's one thing the movie got right: to reach relativistic speeds it had to accelerate for 60 years in one direction
>>
>>79944024
the whole thing was a farce, really. The ugly, Spielberg futuristic sets, the CGI, the acting, just all awfully rote and bland. I turned it off as soon as it cut to black, because I'd been waiting for it to end for 90 minutes.

I think it would have been better in the hands of a director with a vision, and a studio with balls. - the ending I described here >>79943231 would have left an impression on me, even though I wasn't a fan of everything previously, an ending like that would have left me feeling something.

my assumption is that neither wanted to go back to hibernation after the captain died of a malfunctioning one

There is ZERO build up for that

The only thing this movie had going for it, was jlaw's hot ass.
>>
>that extremely unfitting song at the end

>>
>>79951533

>>

desu pandorum was way better than this but it didn't have big budget and famous actors
>>
>>79949000
some guy who used to be a movie critic suggested this and i totally do that now

but for movies im unsure of/ probably wont even watch at all, ill be OK with seeing

the only trailer i saw in recent times in for fences and that made me definitely want to watch the movie because the acting was 10/10 in clips shown

>he comes back to life

my shitty calculation:
the travel takes 100 years at half light speed relative to them
it is 150 years for people on earth (time dilation)
this makes the planet only 300ly away?

or was it 100 years for earth

I need the physics of this
>>
>>79951812
the pod is only made for one person
>>
>>79951985
probably it is not even designed to suspend for more than a year
since they never thought there would be a pod failure and medpod would be in use for only 4 months
>>
>>79939780
>dude let's just steal plot elements, visuals and entire scenes from every sci-fi movie of the last ten years lmao
>>
