Does anyone here actually pay for cable anymore? How are these businesses still functioning?
>>
The reason why landlines are still a thing
Millions of old people who still think that's how the world works
>>
why do you think the kikes are locking down the internet so hard, they know they are losing the traditional tv viewers as they die off.

making the web conglomerate into one over moderated sjw fest was their goal.
>>

not that guy, but I actually don't. I just think that TV and movie media based entertainment is overrated and overfunded. if they didn't jew it up (without even factoring advertisements into the equation) and good goys didn't just go with the flow, I would actually pay a couple of bucks for something that barely makes a difference in the quality of my life.

My mom pays for cable because she is a weak minded goyette who can't function without broadcast television because it's been engrained into every aspect of her day for 50 years. I showed her how to check the weather and the news etc all on-demand through the internet but she still chooses to watch daytime skating programs I can't find torrents for, Jeopardy, and the nightly local news even though she watches everything else through Hulu on the Roku I bought her. Meanwhile I don't even own a television.

Even with YouTube TV you still literally have to pay the cable companies to connect to the Internet.

besides old people and neets, the reason most people still have cable are mostly for 2 reasons:

1) bundling (internet + phone + cable) - actually somewhat economical for families
2) Sports - direct deals with the teams themselves is sometimes the only way for someone to watch games

Cable used to be cool in the 90s. There was no such thing as "Packages". You didn't have 12 different packages with different price points to chose from. You used to get all cable channels for around $20 a month. The only extras they offered was channels like HBO or pay per view movies .

Now the cheapest package most companies offer is called "The family package" which will run you $43 a month ( $55 if you want it in HD). You can add around $15 to $22 of FCC taxes on top of that price. It only give you about 4 shitty kid channels, and a bunch of filler.

If you want to get the all the channels you used to get before "Packages" existed get ready to pay around $89 to $140 per month, and that doesn't even give you movie channels like HBO.

Dude, just buy her a tv antenna. You can get over 40 FREE channels in HD with a good one. The more expensive it is the more copper it has which helps you pick up more stations. Mine cost $100, but it was worth it. You can also get cheaper $40 ones that get the job done.

Antennas have copper in them. That's what helps them pick up signals. The more copper in the antenna the more expensive the antenna is, but it helps your signal strength.
>>
>>79938113
Local stations now modulate digital streams over the air instead of analog signals (like they used to, think of old UHF TV dials) In North America, they modulate using the ATSC standard. It's a major upgrade from plain old NTSC. Other regions use different methods of data modulation. They all share the same goal, which is transmitting audio and video from TV towers- digitally, over frequencies which were once used for analog.

you need a tall antenna with little to no interference, aimed correctly. you also need to be situated in an area where you're able to pick up that many channels (near the stations with few obstacles). if you're near a large metro area, it's not that hard if there's a lot of cities near you with nice high radio towers.
there's actually a tool that will tell you how many channels you're likely to pick up

Imagine being so simple you don't have cable just for the white noise it provides.

I have a 200 dollar tv that I use as a computer monitor.
Last time I watched cable was in the hospital. It was actually fun for me to watch commercials for once, nice change of pace and I had never seen most of them before.
I'm just wondering how the hell they are going to do ads in the future, right now people spaz out at that five second forced youtube ad, I can't imagine people tolerating a whole three minutes worth of ads when watching a show anymore.
On the negative side, people will propably never have breaks during watching entertainment ever again. Commercials were a good excuse to get up and walk around, maybe grab a hot pocket and get fatter. Now you can spend hours and hours essentially engaged and reading posts on 4chan versus couch potatoing and cursing to yourself when a commercial break comes.

I honestly could do without cable, but my parents insist. I do watch shows live when I can, but I rarely if ever watch tv otherwise except NFL. I'd much rather just cut out the cable altogether.

Only other option in my area is AT&T and their internet speeds are garbage, and their tv plans are just as expensive. Direct TV might be cheaper, but fuck their contracts / equipment / etc. They are owned by AT&T anyways and I cannot stand AT&T.

Oh by the way, the $10 a month is for a telephone we don't even have hooked up or use, but because it's "bundled" we "save money" by charging us $120 per year for something we don't use.

Told my dad this many times and he's convinced that the bundle is worth it. We also pay for showtime which no one uses, we pay for a bunch of sports shit no one uses. I keep telling my dad this, doesn't seem to mind that he's paying nearly $200 a month for cable alone.

Meanwhile Netflix / Hulu / Amazon can all be had for far less than that every month.

Fuck Cox by the way, is there no ISP / Cable provider in this country that isn't out to fuck their customers in the ass?
