Stewart wasn't just funny, he was likable and charming. When he said something it felt like there was some weight to it, not to mention the fact that he was one of the only political late night shows, along with Colbert and Maher; all three had different formats so there was some variety there. Now late night is polluted with his Daily Show offspring, none of them are likable and they all beat the same drum.

Notice how they establish a connotation with "believe me" as an indication of Trump lying, then proceed to play a clip of a series of "believe me's" - the majority of which did not follow statements that would even require proof. Mostly just assurances of Trump's campaign policies. It's just part of the way Trump communicates, but now the audience (and anyone that honestly watches the show for their political education) will connect that phrase with dishonesty, even though that correlation is not sound.
