Anyone else get the subtle fuck you to Hollywood in La La Land?
The opening song is romanticizing the struggle of being an actor or a dancer. The characters in the scene are all driving either dated or generally shitty cars (like the first woman who sings in the movie), and the title of the song itself is melancholy.
That's all I really got so far. Anyone else have any ideas?
I don't watch movies

LA is one of the worst cities I've ever visited. it's literally Queens tier.
why would I watch that garbage?
>>79829428
Apparently nobody got it because all I ever heard until I actually watched the movie was that it's a huge homage to old MGM musicals, and how the whole thing is Hollywood sucking its own dick.
Film seemed pretty obviously poking fun at what a mess it is throughout the entirety of it. When Mia is telling Seb about how much she loves Hollywood, they're walking past a bunch of moody camera men and actors screaming at each other.
supposedly the director told all the singers and dancers to bring their own cars to shoot the number, but half of them didn't even own cars so they borrowed a bunch from uber drivers

that's not a "fuck you", that's a representation of the reality of struggling actors.

>tfw back fetish

I didn't watch it. I know most of you don't like romantic comedies or musicals so why does this chick flick get mentioned in every other thread?
>>79831813
>if I call it a chick flick, maybe I'll look cool
>it's a musical that forgets to be a musical halfway through
What did they mean by this?
>>79829428
I hate musicals so I didn't watch it.

Judging by the genre and the poster of the movie I think its safe to call it a chick flick. Sorry you can't downvote me. :)

worse
hollywood only likes it because its about hollywood

>it's a musical that forgets to be a musical halfway through
The flow of the music in the film mirrors the characters' mindsets.

because despite being a musical chick flick and seeming really gay, its actually a well put together movie and enjoyable.
All the things that usually suck about romcoms arent there
>>79829428
IMO the movie is about putting love above your own ambitions and how that leads to real success. Both of the main characters only start finding success in their dream careers when they act out of love for each other instead of actually trying to get ahead.
Its basically saying that acting in accordance with love leads to true self realization.

Kill yourself
Pretty sure they just got a heap of shitty cars because the lay were dancing on the hoods. One guy even does a bmx trick off one. There is nice cars on the road, but they don't get danced on.
