It's actually a fantastic film with a very realistic portrayal of mental institution and some of the people in them. It has a grounded realistic main character and a realistic character arc for her. My one gripe is that the climax of the film is a little over dramatic, but it doesn't take away from the main character's story. It's worth the watch, OP, and I actually have a personal vendetta against Wynona Ryder.

I've worked at a mental hospital for 8 years. Ask any female pt what their favorite movie 7 times out of 10 It's girl interrupted. I wonder if this movie popularized being mentally ill for teens. Because teenagers are now acting like cutting yourself is cool or somthing. Emo culture didn't do anybody any favors in that regard. Also anon is right can confirm most bi polar people use it as an excuse to be shitty. Truly bipolar people go from laughing to crying to trying to bite your face.
