Cats are red / green colourblind. In this panel, Garfield sits on a green floor behind a pinkish-red wall. A cat in this room would have a hard time differentiating the wall from the floor; add to that a cat's known spatial confusion and you have the makings of a cat rage room.

if you think plebes (normies) could ever appreciate such patrician tier kino, well, you are wrong.

besides, if normies actually "got it" and enjoyed it, then that means, implicitly, that it's bad.

No, he represents purity and abstaining from sinful acts, that's why when the imposture arbuckle says two he revels himself.

Notice that the pure arbuckle is inside the house, opening the door of judgement along with Garfield and Odie. The laugh track of the first original series plays after the sexual deviants have confessed their lust and pride, they have been accepted. But that laughter never comes after the false arbuckle revels himself as an imposture, he has been turned away from the the house of purity and then is sentenced to hell in the aftermath of the video.

Also note that the laugh track in the newer lasagna cat videos doesn't feature the mans whole-hearted laugh, they instead have coughs.
False John was with Garfield when he decided to restart the series, and every video leading up to sex survey has featured false john until he was banished by real John at the house of purity.

The cough in the laugh track shows the pestilence and sin that has taken over what was meant to be a joyous comic strip. I have no idea the implications. Like ouroboros the cycle must exist and false john was born again, but when will the new false john make another grab at real johns purity? Who knows, the constant struggle between light and dark will remain.

when i'm going through out the day, i, like everyone else, have ups and downs. sometimes i'm completely at peace, but sometimes, something bothers me - i'm no longer quite so comfortable in my own skin. when this happens, since i discovered garfield kino, i've been coming back to the pipe comic. there is the comfortable, contented self; the natural state of being. but ah, i feel for my pipe; and i say to myself then, 'now where could my pipe be'. this is the moment that i realize i've 'fallen from grace'. 'now where could my pipe be'. i look at myself in this moment, i see myself in the mirror of my own mind. and i say, 'garfield!'... the cat has my pipe... and in that moment my eyes have opened, and my ego flees, my cares flee. oh. oh i say, the cat has my pipe. and i return once again, in the great turning, that eternal cycle, to the innocence of the garden; i read my paper, i cross my legs, i am at ease. eventually i will again feel a stirring inside of myself - i will put out my hand and feel for my pipe, and it will not be there, and i will think to myself... "now where could my pipe be?" and the cycle will repeat itself, as it always has and always will. but this is a lucidity, an awareness of the constant revolutions of thought and spirit, that i do not want to lose. i don't ever want to close my eyes again, to the nature of reality; i, jon arbuckle, and the accuser, shaitan, the devil, the cat, the enemy, who sits smoking my pipe. for these are the two forces at work in all things; the yin and yang which penetrate to the very bottom of reality. this is something i do not want to forget. and that is why i am going to get the image of garfield smoking that pipe on my wrist. so that i can always look down and be reminded; so that when i say to myself, 'now where could my pipe be?' i am reminded: the cat has my pipe.

garfield!

man you're dense. and probably morally and intellectually corrupt as well. it's not just that you're stupid, it's that you're bad, possibly evil, in any event, you're complete shit. and illiterate. you can't read properly. your post indicates that you are unable to correctly deciper the meaning of the printed english language.

i will break my post down into simpler terms so that a stupid person like you can understand.

1. it does not matter where content comes from.

2. it's either good or bad and you should decide this for yourself.

you should not have used the word 'originated' in your post. you had no fucking license to do so. you've proved you're a fucking fool. you'll say that, 'it's just a shitpost, it doesn't matter'. but it does matter. it shows that you're not intelligent. you're not smart. and you're a shitty person. your 'friends' aren't your friends. they will abandon you at a moments notice.

furthermore, 'determine fact for yourself' you say this after saying ' deciding where it originated for yourself' in the implication that rather than judging on evidence, you're making a statement which is untruthful, based on ulterior motives. the fact that you instantly imagine this proves the utter decrepitude of your soul. you are poison in the well of the human race.

you have failed to understand. you have failed to think correctly. you have failed to think for yourself. you have failed to be accurate. you have failed english 101. you are a failure. you are a cretin.

kill your fucking Self.

The pipe is obviously a homage to René Magritte's famous surealist painting of a pipe. Since the goal of surealism was essentially that of revolution of any norm and commodity, I assume that Jon represents society and Garfield represents revolutionary art.
The fucking pipe does not exist, and Garfield is hitting Jon over the head with this fact and shocks his tiny burgeous world of commodity and control. Note that he is wearing a blue collared shirt and is consuming a newspaper; the conformist's media and the mouthpiece of those in power.
I'm a bit too tired to go into detail here, but it is brilliant actually.

I think actually a lot of millennials are having much less sex now.

The ones part of the meat market and Tinder culture have a lot of cheap sex but there's increasingly a lot who are having much lower partner numbers.

It doesn't seem to be necessarily that those who aren't fucking everyone totally can't get laid, but part of it might be the internet keeping a lot of people at home more which obviously will not put one in situations that lead to relationships or hookups. And the types of people who are plugged into the deeper parts of meme and youtube culture obviously are more likely to be more internet addicted.

Add to this though the fact that apparently a lot of younger people are less hedonistic than Boomers and Gen X were, and even more than Millennials, Gen Z are supposedly coming up even more socially conservative and probably have somewhat conservative sexual values (in not wanting to fuck strangers every day).

I definitely think Lasagnacat has a more selective appeal.

It may appear to be the absolute top of the shelf in youtube content or experimental anti-comedy or meming/shitposting to some of us, but part of its appeal is a type of 'meme humor' and acute aesthetic attention to little cultural details that wouldn't necessarily have any meaning for a lot of people.

Plus, it's pretty hardcore actually, what with the bukkake parody. Not the type of thing a lot of normal people (supposedly) are going to knowingly chuckle at.

Like the little details portraying the culture of online teenage 'edginess' from around 2004. Notice in that one, with the backyard fight (12/04/1980), there's an open tab at the bottom with the search 'Olivia Munn nude', which is like who some teenage kid would have been jerking off to.

>Are people who enjoy a Garfield inspired comedic video series, representative of society as a whole?

Straightforward Garfield inspired comedic videos? Sure, that has proven to be very popular with the normal crowd.

Weird, meme-y postironic anticomedic Garfield-inspired videos though? That's probably more of a niche appeal. Same way that not everyone is going to like Sam Hyde or Tim & Eric, or why more people follow Chris Stuckman than Red Letter Media.
>>

>>
>>79765851
No, my point is that most people would like ordinary Garfield cartoons or the movies, but aren't going to necessarily get or like ironic or postironic shit-posty takes on Garfield.

I'm saying something like Lasagnacat DOESN'T have universal appeal. If it does get a big following, well, it's well-deserved. I think it deserves more followers because it is actually that good, and I'm not going to hate in some autistic way if more people know about it. But I doubt it will become that huge, because I don't think most people are that clever or that dark in their humor.

I don't even find the humor that obtuse, anyone can find it funny since it's so clearly over the top rather than just being as obscure as possible like most meta comedy
>>
>>79765940

my take on this stuff, is, that the sketches at least, are genuinely funny simply because no one has dared to do such straightforward humor for so long.

the humor is extremely simple.

pic related. this is funny. people simply forgot how to laugh at it because of all the edgy ironic trash that's been going around. lasagna cat will remind them. lasagna cat is not post-ironic memecore or what have you. quite the opposite. it's the return to a classical era; it's a purification and it has an honesty and simplicity which would make both children and adults laugh.

this humor is neither clever, nor dark. it's just funny and nothing more. this comes across as shocking to 4channers, i think.

>>79766052
commentary on emptiness
>>
>>79766024
I agree it's funny on that absurd level that anyone should be able to 'get', but I don't think everyone even likes that.

For instance that kind of humor in the first place is a style that's more popular with Millennials and Gen Z. Gen X don't seem to really get or care for it - check the comments in the vids - it's obviously Millennial and younger. And I glanced at a few places where Gen X types hang out online and there will be like one enthusiastic Millennial is saying it's genius and then the typical blase snarky indifference from the Gen Xers.

Also though, in addition to the over-the-top meme humor style that I don't think older people really like, is an attention to details that is also a part of its appeal that most people won't get or care for. You didn't see that Tim & Eric style riffing thing before this last decade or so... getting all psychedelically up inside weird little riffs on cultural aesthetic details is a recent approach that you first get with some older Millennials and has become kind of the visual and time-based editing language of the emerging culture in this decade.

It's not that it's so smart that others couldn't sort of get there's a joke in there, but more that it just doesn't appeal to previous generations and is still a really cutting edge approach.
>>
>>79766049
?

Lasagnacat is the EPITOME of postironic memecore. It's just genuinely funny. It's just better than most of the other stuff out there.
>>
>>79766224

i think that to call something post-ironic is to make it seem as if it was a reaction to the horrible, insincere, edgy nihilism that has passed for humor for so long. and if it is in fact just a reaction, i think that, ironically, it would no longer be truly post ironic. garfield is as free from the constraints of the past as it is true to the real heritage from which it came.
>>
>>79751137
They would've been 8-9 years ago but people moved on from unironically liking memes like ragecomics and macros.

Also they're like 1-4 hours long and that alone to the average viewer just means tl;dw
>>
>>79766282
I don't mean it in that way. I consider that kind of edgy nihilism more to be ironic. Postironic involves actual enjoyment more.

Everything about this, technique-wise, how it uses material, its approach to humor, etc, is still very much this recent style. It's just really, really good.
>>
>>79766311

lasagna cat is not a meme whatsoever. it's completely genuine.

no, i don't expect people to watch the sex survey. and most people won't watch the 1 hour analysis of the cat with the pipe. if they saw the skits, they'd laugh though.

>>79766331

i agree.

i've hated irony for years now. it's a defense by which you avoid accountability by simply being insincere in everything. disgusting. i mean it has its place here and there, but we've created consumnately ironic human beings.
>>
>>79766311
They DID do videos 9 years ago, and the channel remained kind of an underground secret/niche.

I think it's just too clever for its own good. We can be devil's advocates and assume that most people can get this stuff, but there really isn't a big following for the best content, usually. People are not only often morons, but they have really shit taste.

If by 'meme' you mean shallow or shitty, then this definitely transcends that, but it's whole aesthetic and structure is made of memes. Taking a little snippet of weird or funny content and riffing on it and following it recursively deeper and deeper into itself, or splicing it with other little slices of content.

It's a lot like /tv/ humor, actually, which is probably why we probably constitute a large chunk of its following. We also like to take something uncanny or improbable or shitty and obsessively focus on it and play with it until it turns into something absurdly funny (at our best). The whole way the videos on Lasagnacat take a little quote and then do like a audio-visual remix of it, playing with it from all these weird angles, is pure /tv/.
>>
>>79766452
I dunno man. If you don't find some of these videos like the backyard fight one or the intellectual guy praising the comic strip about the pipe clever, then I suppose there's no way I can 'prove' or argue it to you. I think it's genuinely brilliant. In an aesthetic sort of way.

The video in question's intention is to be boring as fuck because that's the comedy and no-one cares about it either. The only reason we're interested in it, a small minority not finding it boring, is for absurdist comedy. These vids have completely gone under the radar outside of our little circles. Has anyone else looked through the newest Garfield comics just out of interest.

It's crazy to realize that Fatal Farm isn't just pulling the worst offending comics, nearly all of Garfield is so mundane and lazily made.

After doing this comic strip for so many decades I imagine there's hundreds if not thousands of Garfield comics that feature the same jokes again and again, as Davis lacks the creativity or even the ambition to do anything remotely fun with these comics.

Fatal Farm isn't belitting Garfield, this is truly the most loving tribute something so mediocre could ever receive.
>>
>>79756613
No, say it right, like you did before.

Okay so Sex Survey Results is a commentary on the author of Garfield being a shitty writer right? The first 4 hours before the end is a commentary on repetitiveness and the easy relate-ability of the subject of the comic. And then at the end John meets himself from the future (he had had sex with 2 people, Dr Liz Wilson and Amy) and the narrative follows him as the pure john of the past doesn't recognize what he will eventually become. Future John realizes how the past is seen as more comical and pure than the present (Garfield is now a live cat instead of a mascot). He leaves to contemplate the nature of the past 40 years of his repetitive and stale life when he sees two members of his audience (the manikins) who hand him a realization that the public sees Garfield the comic strip as a terrible, dead husk of what it used to be. John leaves the cat on the bus but it follows him, because he cannot escape his reality.

John then travels to the desert while the audio of an interview plays explaining Jim Davis' incredibly dull and unoriginal writing style, leading John to realize just what his world is. John travels deep into unexplored territory (original content) but is stopped by the grotesque and animalistic personification of Garfield the comic strip. The comic charges at him and threatens him, attacking him but disappearing at the last second and instead turning him into a pile of worms, killing him. The comic has deteriorated too far to be saved, and will not be allowed to be saved due to marketing reasons.

From then the scene changes to a young polish girl miscarrying in a school bathroom. The baby has John's green shirt on. The woman then chants
>"This child isn't mine. This child is from the darkness. I bore the humanity's curse. I can ask for mercy, which I won't get. My soul will be consumed and thrown up and then consumed again. Forever. Sick joke, but no one's laughing. My blood will stay. Death isn't the end. I'm in hell. This is hell."

>After doing this comic strip for so many decades I imagine there's hundreds if not thousands of Garfield comics that feature the same jokes again and again, as Davis lacks the creativity or even the ambition to do anything remotely fun with these comics.

Davis doesn't even draw the comics anymore, he has assistants draw it (or copy/paste more likely) and he just approves the final product. I wouldn't be surprised if he just farms out the writing too, and rubber stamps it as long as it's not going to damage his brand.

The modern-day Michelangelo who made the Pipe Strip is long gone. It's all about $$$ now, sadly. Success can ruin even the greatest artist.
>>
>>79768631
This woman IS Jim Davis. She created the cycle that is the hellish monotony of John Arbuckle's life with Garfield and Odie. John is already dead when he is born, but dragged through his life as a character (Represented by the repetitiveness of the first 4 hours) until he realizes the nature of his world and attempts growth(or has growth thrust upon him) by Jim Davis attempting to explore a new direction. This attempted revival is always shut down (The savage Garfield silencing John) and the cycle of Garfield the comic's horrific and terrible writing continuing for as long as the newspapers will print it.
>>
Now, where could my pipe be?
>>
>>79768631

he never had sex. when jon lies, submitting himself to the standards of the world, the true john, john of the first panel, laughs and corrects him. he is then seen as old and decrepit, and his life flashes before his eyes, before he goes to hell. it's a stern warning to stay true to yourself.
>>
>>79751346
Making a bad joke while knowing it is a bad joke, doesn't make it good.

Garfield is a comic about a lonely guy and his cat and his dog. They talk about things around their house. The most notable traits of the main character (cat) are
>hates Mondays
>likes lasagna

It's the blandest and most mundane concept conceivable, which means it's perfectly safe to showcase in every single newspaper funnies section, grocery store card rack, coffee mugs for crazy aunts, etc.

It's nestled itself into the collective American psyche purely by the virtue of being completely bland and safe- which makes it a ripe target for satire and subversion.
>>
>>79769389
It was this semi-obscure channel from 9 years ago that sat dormant until just yesterday, and it's concept is pretty left-field, so nobody really saw it coming.

I'll admit I always really liked the channel, but it always felt like having a secret hunch that there was actually this great sense of humor buried in there, but not something I could exactly share or explain, and it wasn't until now that its brilliance has been revealed so nakedly.

And yeah, it's totally worth every bit of the praise it's getting.

no. we are not practicing satire. we are not practicing subversion. garfield is a tabula rasa, a rosetta stone which reveals the most fundamental psychomythologies of our culture. it is the fount upon which all possible religious and artistic genius must eventually arrive if it wishes to come to the source of wisdom and meaning in our culture.

garfield is the end-game for the human spirit.

there is NOTHING ironic, subversive, or satirical here. garfield is the winnowing of the sincere from the insincere. the faithful from the faithless. garfield is, as represented, st peter, whom decides if your soul ascends or if it burns.
>>
>>79769324
Mocking Newspaper Funnies is pretty well-trodden ground.

And really it's an easy target because the format for a newspaper funny is so ridiculously hard for any creator that's trying to stay interesting. They have limited space to tell a story and they have to keep delivering new strips daily. I think Bill Watterson and Gary Larson retired their acclaimed comic strips because they couldn't keep up with such a demanding job without damaging the quality of their work.

At the best case scenario the cartoonists who keep doing a decent job just produce comics that are a sensible chuckle, I can still smile when I read a Dilbert. At worst they're just utterly dull like Garfield or Heathcliff.

What makes Lasagna Cat amazing is just the level of production and the metahumor. I've watched the newest videos several times over and still catch new stuff.

>>
>>79769729

To me the massive number of 0-2 people is flabbergasting. LC is a fairly old series so the demographic isn't going to swing into the very young like the losers on /r9k/ who think they are experiencing the worst of humanity since they've been too scared to even make an attempt.

But it truly seems like a large number of Americans actually don't have much dating or sexual experience. People become surprisingly more honest after you've seen them naked. Even discussing sex between friends brings people closer

The only reason we're compelled by it, a small minority not finding it boring, is for absurdist comedy. These vids have completely gone under the radar outside of our little circles. So "no one cares" applies here and interest is completely suggestive so you've made a non-distinction.

In one of the early short-but-wide compilations of all the Garfield strips ever, and in all the other ones after some point I assume, there was this big picture in the back of all of Paws Inc. surrounding Jim Davis all fat in his Hawaiian shirt. I wonder what it's like now. There were like under ten people.
