Why are people excited about this director for The Batman (or anything)? His director credits all seem to be middling stuff, but to be fair I have only seen two: Cloverfield was an okay genre movie at the time, I wouldn't want to rewatch; and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes turned a great series reboot into a mediocre generic action movie and made me lose all interest in future PotA movies.

At best this guy seems like a competent director, not a visionary in any way, so without an incredible script and talented producer/studio backup, I can't see this guy turning out anything beyond a mediocre Batman movie.

I wouldn't credit all plot or character developments on him. He had 3 writers, working on each of the reboot movies. 2 got snagged by Cameron for his Avatar sequels, so I'm waiting to see any dips in quality in the next Apes movie.

Still, his action isn't nauseating and his cinematography is better than average. Actor interactions with the mo-capped ones I guess you can give credit to him and Serkis.
