I still don't understand the purpose of CP3O's red arm in TFA. Not only did he inexplicably have the red arm, but the little dialogue he has is used to awkwardly and hamfisted draw attention to the stupid red arm.

But it's a massive non-sequitur and serves absolutely no purpose in the story at all. It's a minor thing, but it's just another oddity to add to the pile when it comes to TFA's writing.
