I am a member of an enormous Italian family living in Brooklyn and Staten Island. I live in a neighborhood full of Italian people with enormous families. I don't know a single Italian who talks that way. It all sounds as stereotypically fictional as a chef with thick black curly hair bulging out of a big poofy white chefs hat, a red and white checkered shirt, a white apron with red neckerchief, a thick black mustache, serving a plate of food and saying, "That's-ah spicy meat-ah ball-ah!". Stereotypes can be useful for comedy but they are lazy shortcuts for just about any other genre. They aren't a genuine representation. Authenticity makes for far better character development.

Not really, gravy is pretty specific to that region of Jersey, and not much outside of it.

Generally, Italians say "red sauce" or "white sauce" when talking about pasta sauces. No one ever says "marinara" or shit like that.

It's actually great. These little pockets of Italian immigrants all developed their own "english" way of saying words. And it stuck. These memes are ingrained to their respective community and you'll fight to the fucking death for them.
