The prologue sets down that maui was the villian, cause of all problems, and completely in the wrong the entire time. Then does absolutely nothing further with that, then in the end acts like its supposed to be a twist that lava demon was actually the goddess. Then after 80 minutes all the problems that are established in the first five minutes are resolved and maui is completely forgiven.

So acting like its some sort of virtue to have less story than the last four or five disney movies is ridiculous.

Ariel's story is a selfish one. There's hardly any adventure. Once she gets on land it just becomes a comedy of errors. She also creates all her own problems.
