This is one of the worst episodes of "classic" Simpsons. Go ahead, try to deny it, because you can't. All the shoehorned guests and celebrities actually voicing THEMSELVES in the Simpsons. This is one reason why The Simpsons sucks so much now, because of all the shoehorned celebrity cameos that add nothing to the story. And yet, Krusty Gets Kancelled is one of the worst offenders of this. It would have been funnier if the guests voiced parodies of themselves, not their actual selves. Fuck, does this episode blow, apart from pic related.
Why doesn't this episode get more flak?

It's nowhere near the same thing. The cameos in Krusty Gets Kancelled aren't shoehorned in, they're part of the plot (and not the basis for it as is the case for a lot of newer episodes). The joke that Krusty is famous enough to have all of these relationships with famous people despite being a small town clown is what makes the whole thing funny.
The other thing you're forgetting is that not only does the episode stand for itself, but it's among the best episodes of the best seasons of the whole show. One episode that uses cameos as a plot device isn't amiss in Season 4, as opposed to the obvious stand outs of the new seasons in which they rely on cameos to beg people to watch and feature celebrities as themselves way more than they should.
tl;dr context is what saves it.

>that add nothing to the story
But they obviously make sense in the story here.
OP you are clearly a dumb youngfag who never watched TV in the 70's/80's to know what the episode was even about
Modern Simpsons doesn't even use celebrities in the plot anymore

Homer's Enemy and 22 Short Films are the best two episodes of the Simpsons, period.
