I worked hard too. I worked in minimum wage for 5 years. made a lot of friends. Hated every moment of it. And worked my ass off to get out. And I got out.

But because they have no option. They have a sick parent who takes up all their time. They tried education but couldn't get the grades to pass when their parent would have a mental breakdown on exam nights. Some had kids. And being a good parent meant being there for their kid and that's hard when you're working 60+ hours and babysitter cost almost as much as you make. I had been working for about a decade in various technical positions when I had to take a sabbatical to look after a sick family member.
