Shandling spoke about this before he died.

Apparently, he and Gervais got on well prior to the interview.

He agreed to do Gervais show but Gervais was to film something for him that day too.

Instead of turning up and talking about who would go first, plan out both shoots, etc. Gervais just turned up with cameras rolling without warning Shandling.
