>tfw just now realizing most of /tv/ didn't grow up in the 80s like I did

>tfw most of you were probably born after 9/11 or were to young to remember it

So childhood for you guys was basically watching How I Met Your Mother instead of Married With Children?

The Chronicles of Narnia instead of Back to the Future?

Jesus Christ, that's just so wrong to me.

That's so fucking fucked up.
>>
>>79552359
It's the reason why shit like "X-Men: First Class" and "Prometheus" are considered good movies.

We're old, man.
>>
>>79552380
I am 41 and I hate those movies.
>>
>they think Emma Watson is good/attractive actress because they grew up watching Harry Potter
>>
>>79552432
She was attractive in the first 2-3 movies.
>>
>>79552427
I honestly noticed a distinct drop in movie quality around the year 2004 and every movie since then has been awful. It's like Hollywood lost its way after the new millennium or something. Have you noticed that every time a new movie comes out, the default reaction to it is "That looks like shit"?
>>
>>79552359
All of those things are the same shit-tier quality.
>>
>>79552359
Newer movies are better movies. Get over it Grandpa.

We're also the last generation to remember what life was like before social media.

Everyone after us is of the Facebook/Google era.
>>
>just now
the incessant youtube reviewer/personality threads didn't tip you off?
>>
>>79552380
i'm 80s kid, and think those raren't horrible. In fact First class may be tthe best xmen movie, despite jlaw and not-that-good Emma

Prometheus also okay, except for the retarded "scientists"
>>
>>79552558
Exactly. I can't believe generic action movies like John Wick, Taken, and Jack Reacher are now so popular, when they'd be considered bargain bin-tier if they came out in the 80s/90s.
>>
You may think we're not part if the same generation, but regardless of what shows we watched we all got brought up in the media-era, when generations define themselves and connect through what media-products we consume and make part of our "personal" history.
We're basically the same mediaval children, minds unborn within the confines of rectangular pixelboxes.
>>
>>79552601
Terminator 3 was when you knew things were bad.
>>
You're just too dense to realize you're saying ye olde classic "everything from my Era was great and everything new is shit" completely ignoring that old shit was just as common, it's just not remembered.

>>

Cinema was great until 2008-2009.
>>
>>79552427
I'm 26 and I've "discovered" 20s/30s/40s movies a few years ago. They are so much better than the current Hollywood offerings.

No hipster. I just love those movies. I've been watching 1 or 2 movies a day for the last 4 years and I still have so fucking much more to watch. It's great. My only problem is that I have so many to watch, I don't have time to rewatch the ones I loved more than others.

I still watch a few (very few) recent movies, but most of them are very disappointing. The last ones I watched that were good were throwbacks to other eras (The Nice Guys, The Final Girls).
>>
>>79552674
What are some great 20s/30s/40s movies?
>>
>>79552623
>Prometheus also okay

How is a movie that features a fucking ring ship rolling over a character like in the Looney Tunes okay?
>>
>>79552674

you make a comment on fb to an article from your anon-account, and these fags say you're a troll if you have a different opinion, just because they were conditioned by fb to give all their personal info to a bigbrother system, They probably never saw a forum where people use nicknames. Who the fuck would want to be old? Being at the end of your teen years/early 20s right now is great, you're old enough to have had a fair chunk of your childhood be normal and pre-internet and still got the leftovers of what was popular in the 90s but young enough to have the internet and have any music, movies and games that you want at your fingertips. '94-2001 kids got it made.
>>
>>79552826
What life experiences? I finished college in my home town and I am living there and I inherited the house I live in. The only interesting thing about me is that I am fit and it's only interesting because people think I am an athlete and not the guy who only goes out of his house to work out.

So check this out op, I am taking a class and most of the student are our age, but there are a few fresh college kids in there. One of them has a band. He was telling me about his show. The bands all play for twenty minutes. Twenty minute sets. Why? He says that audiences get bored of the same band if they play for more than twenty minutes. Growing up with the internet has diminished human attention span that much. And you know damn well they play with their phones for most of those twenty minutes anyway.

We were the last generation to know what it's like to actually experience anything fully.

maybe you should stop watching capeshit

Movies like planet of the ape shows what cgi is capable of.

I liked the 80s. You could make anything you want without worrying about the hurt-feelings police flipping their shit.

this. the whole world started taking stupid pills around this time.

so much so that people actually like this movie for being "campy" when they weren't even going for that at all. it was just a terrible film.

She basically just read his mind or the spell read his mind (what does he want to eat? "turkish delight" what? well okay *POOF*)
>>
>>79552793

Yeah CGI totally stopped advancing. That digital princess leia and the old commander from first star wars totally looked like they were ported from ps1 game! LOL!
>>
As a fellow too old to be here but still is

The only thing I really wonder about/kind of look down upon later generations is not being able to remember a life without omnipresent smartphones and Internet. I still remember what childhood was like unplugged. Watching the Sandlot I can still identify with life as a kid in the 50s more or less. That's not something I would ever want to give up.

Like I don't get how modern kids function having to be accountable to social media. Having all their peers spy on them. If anyone would try to bully me it's just a matter fists, non of this cyber gossip crap.
>>
>>79552793
Do you 'member being a kid in the 90s and noticing that every new movie that came out had exponentially better CGI than the last one?

Now, it's like CGI has plateaued and every movie looks identical now.
>>
>>79552503

It's just more cookie cutter based on marketing numbers. It is the abomination that will haunt humanity, the horrible union of psychology and economy- marketing, the true death of evolution.
>>
>>79555171
You only notice CG that isn't good, and don't notice when it's incredible
>>
>tfw born in le wrong generation
>>
The best CGI work I've ever seen was in Gravity

It was also the most superfluous - why the fuck couldn't they have done this with props and costumes?
>>
>>79555150
>not being able to remember a life without omnipresent smartphones and Internet.

I honestly pity phonezombies who live and sometimes even die by their phones with "WHAA SOMEONE TEXTED SOME MEAN SHIT SO I THINK I'LL KILL MYSELF"

They can't even sit down and enjoy a mean without fucking with their phones.
>>
>>79555405
I still shake my head when I walk by children's playgrounds that have all padded plastic apparatus's.
I remember going to school in the 80s and we had steel swings, steel jungle gyms, steel slides. And when you went out for recess that shit was hot as fuck and burned you. And we lived with it.

This is fundamentally untrue.

What's weird is remembering being blown away by transitionally good CGI and then coming back to it and feeling that it's ugly even though nothing has changed.
>>
>>79555276
this. There are movies that have CG that you don't even realize its there.

>>
>>79555447
Thank the lawsuits of the late 80's/early 90's for padding everything.
>>
>>79555534
Fuck that padding shit.
I want it to be the way it was for me.
Play on the giant steel jungle gym, not a tooth out, continue my day like nothing happened.
All that padding and plastic shit has turned kids into pussies.

Leftism turned kids into pussies. It turned them into whiny limp-wristed "MY FEELINGS MATTER" faggots who are major shit-throwers and professional complainers but off themselves if anyone says anything about them.

It's madness.

>>
>>79555681
Mediocrity is what's happening now with this bullshit of a one-size-fits all social order paired with a 3rd-world invasion that's slowly killing off our culture so nothing offends the savages.

Last year it was fuck impossible to find something that said "Merry Christmas" or associated Christ with Christmas in a store, and for Halloween selectios were much smaller than they used to be, and limited to a tiny handful of "non-offensive to the whiny left and Obama-people" wigs and makeup sets.

The culture that people know is dying.

Leftists are easy to spot because they can never counter-point, and instead insult and publicly lynch hoping to bully people into silence.

Well it is happening no matter how much you wish to blind people to keep them from seeing it
>>
>>79555633

Nah mate, the so called pursuit of happiness turned a lot into cynics. The "my feelings matter" population are young people that are trying to take charge of the only thing that they can perceive as truth, their own feelings. If your "strongarm" generation would've gave them the tools to be independent, to not revel in their own feelings as it's about the only thing they can clearly define as authentic, we wouldn't be in this so-called mess. You are also literally doing what you accuse them of. Those are your feelings about a pussified generation and not helping shit. Just makes more cynics, as those people who care will start disregarding other human beings for being so utterly detestable in their ignorance and loudness.
>>

Death brings change. Good riddance and take religious differences with you. We can manage everyone having their own belief and we can also pull triggers if we need to. What we can't do is telling the old to fuck off and leave tomorrows challenges to those who have to face them.

I didn't realize how bad this younger generation was till I went out to a nice restaurant for my aunts birthday. Sitting across from our table was a group of about 6 early 20 girls and guys. And I shit you not they spent the entire dinner taking photos of themselves and their food. I'm talking a good 2 hours of posing and passing their phones around to take pictures of each other. And the kicker. They barely talked to each other. Thought I was on a hidden camera show

let's call it what it actually is: extremists, which has no particular political taint, get your self policing mind control vocabulary out of here.

and I don't know if you, as a self appointed speaker of the right, really want go into the territory of who did what and did they get punished appropriately or rather, let's just not go there at all and just see which side creates policies that help and which side creates policies that harm.
