Ehhhhh. I wouldn't recommend it for a first time viewing. The scene on LV-426 before the marines get there totally ruins a lot of the build-up and some of the added scenes kill the pacing. I love the scene with Ripley learning about Amanda but within the movie it just doesn't fit anywhere. She goes from crying over that to smoking and acting like a hard ass bitch in the meeting scene. I'd only reccommend the Director's cut/Special edition after at least seeing the theatrical cut first. It's just a more focused movie overall. Jim's DCs are always a mixed bag
