Padawans cannot take apprentices. In the film, Obi-Wan talks about being ready to face the trials and become a Jedi Knight. Only at the end of the film when he becomes a full knight is he allowed to take Anakin as his Apprentice.

As a result, his opinions, goals and self-image change drastically. He suffers from extreme boredom if not put to a task.

During the clone wars, he's always kept busy and his mind is occupied. During episode 3, he's having paranoid thoughts about Padme dying and is being torn in different directions by Palpatine and Obi Wan. His BPD kicks in and causes alot of the erratic behavior we see in episode 3 (and 2 for that matter)

If you look at Anakin as a character study of a person suffering from BPD, Hayden's portrayel was actually pretty good.

Seasons 1 and 2 have an equal mix of great stuff and kiddy shit. Seasons 3-6 are overwhelmingly Star Wars kino.

If you're worried about it being too goofy and silly, some of the arcs get VERY dark and intense. Just remember that every tv show has bad content occasionally. Deciding not to watch Breaking Bad because of the beginning of Season 3 would be stupid.
