i think showing his death and the kid grieving would have detracted the story about chiron. Chiron was already in Alabama at that point anyway so it wasn't as relevant. Wish hed shot that ugly nigger instead of using a chair though.

I just finished watching this like three minutes ago. I enjoyed it and Ali's character. I wish Ali was around longer but I understand why they killed him when they did.

So the moral of the story is get whooped on for being gay all of your life and then grow up to sell drugs like the only father figure you ever had, then finally return to your gay childhood friend and raise his wife's daughter with him if you want to have a happy life in the end.

Moonlight was really good but dragged on a bit too much at times with scenes that were pretty blatant for what they were... Despite that I was pulled in like nothing else has in a while from the opening. It felt like a black ghetto version of Gummo at times which was interesting to reflect on. The sad thing is it still fits in the category of most modern movies that are made very well and shot very well but as far as the actual story goes it falls short. The gay gangster story isn't new, sure this version is with it's Boyhood similarities is fresh, but it never really rose above other films that have tried the same.

Basically it's just another story about how nigs are gonna nig no matter where they are but they be blue and that's a metaphor for their soul so feel bad for them.

It's also a story about how a Cuban immigrant had such a negative impact on the American community he was a part of and how he continued this further degradation of local blacks by influencing a young boy with his illegal activities.

Fake Fifty Cent was also shit compared to all the other actors and kinda tarnished the ending.

If that's all you can take away after watching the movie you missed the point. In the end it doesn't matter if he's gay or if he's black, it's that he's someone who doesn't belong in his environment and feels pressured to act like someone he isn't.

This is a complaint I find confusing about characters with gay people in them, on one hand people complain if they're "too gay" and act like stereotypes, going around trying to bounce on everyone's dick, and on the other hand people complain if they aren't "gay enough" and act like regular people who happen to be gay. It's a retarded criticism that misses the point of the movie.
