Two Academy Award related questions:

1. Which Best Picture nominees this year are actually worth watching?

2. Which historical Best Picture winners are actually worth watching are which are just big really big piles of shit/products of their time?

I've seen all of this year's nominees except Hidden Figures and Lion, and I can honestly say I enjoyed all of them except La La Land.

Most winners are decent movies but wildly overrated. Every winner from the 80's for example except Amadeus and The Last Emperor has aged like shit. I would suggest watching the nominees that didn't win. If you look among them you'll find much more interesting premises and casts.

>Which historical Best Picture winners are actually worth watching are which are just big really big piles of shit/products of their time?
This guy got it right.>>79476754 Most of them are worth watching; especially classics like Gone With the Wind, Lost Weekend and Casablanca. Some like Gigi are okay but not really the greatest of films.

>>79476754
>forgetting No Country for Old Men
how could one man be so pleb?
>>
>>79476439
Forrest Gump, The English Patient, Titanic, Chicago, LOTR and Out of Africa are just a few of many utter horseshit films that shouldn't have won Best Picture
>>
>>79476613
This La La Land is shit.

Silence is better than all the noms tho
>>
>>79476439
1. All of them except Hidden Figures
2. All of them
>>
>>79477434
>insulting Tolkien and Kander and Ebb in one sentence
Grade A bait. #triggered
>>
>>79478136
just because you're some autismo who has gone through life using LOTR as a substitute for spiritualism and mistaking musicals starring ageing rom com actors for high art doesn't mean you're opinions matter
>>
>>79478594
>using LOTR as a substitute for spiritualism
Big assumption and has nothing to do with the film's quality.
>mistaking musicals starring ageing rom com actors for high art
Ebb is a great composer and the film was certainly better than anything else nominated.
>>
>>79476754
>no On the Waterfront

get the fuck out
>>
>>79479225
Yeah Scorsese and Polanski, what utter hacks. Can't believe their bullshit even got a nod that year.

>has nothing to do with the films quality
So you admit it
>>
>>79476439

>tfw Silence received almost nothing when it is one of Scorsese's most audacious and brilliant films

the mainstream audience is so fucking embarrassing these days. I mean we all knew Hollywood has become garbage but when movies like Passengers got more Oscar nominations than something like Silence. What the fuck has happened?

Why are Americans such gigantic plebs? I love America but what a disgustingly useless country in a lot of ways.
