What are your favorite movies of 2016? Let's get a proper discussion thread going for once.

My top 3 are probably:

>Embrace of the Serpent
>Aferim
>Arrival
>>
such kino
>>
Captain America: Civil War
Moonlight
Arrival
>>
1# is manchester by the sea
>>
>>79455309

Is it actually good? I was extremely hyped for it when I saw the first trailer that was released since it was essentially a visual jigsaw puzzle, but I hear it's quite the letdown.

I don't like zombie movies, but Train to Busan was really good. Well written, well directed, and well acted.
>>
>>79455292
Tickled
10 Cloverfield Lane
Kubo and the Two Strings
Arrival
Nocturnal Animals
Captain America: Civil War (yeah, I like me some good capeshit, and this one somehow felt more rewatchable than Doctor Strange)
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (just for how amazingly NOTHING in it worked right despite it being pretty well-made on the technical level)

Missed the opportunity to see Hardcore Henry (in my country it was released in theatres in 2016, so it kinda counts), probably would've enjoyed it on the big screen.
Also forgot that Deadpool came out in 2016. It was pretty good too.

Meh:
Kubo and the Two Strings (if only for the visuals)
Snowden

Everything else that got wide release in the US was bad.

It's boring, nothing interesting happens and the little twist at the end is shit as well.
It was made cost effectively so the studio could fund bigger projects and made back it's budget three times over.

Nice Guys
The Witch
I Am Not A Serial Killer
Kubo (it's artstyle/animation was beautiful)
Handmaiden
>>
>>79458382

I have I Am Not a Serial Killer downloaded, but wasn't sure if it was worth an immediate watch. The trailer made it look charmingly moody, but the plot also seemed a bit contrived (An edgy teenager with "dark" impulses has to catch a serial killer? Didn't Dexter already cover this?).

If you don't mind, I'd be interested in hearing your take on the film, including its strengths and weaknesses. No spoilers would be great, of course.
>>
>>79458424
The narrative's focus is mainly on a teenagre whom was diagnosed as a socipath. He has an interest in serial killers and often reads about the topic, not to mention that he also works with his mother in her morg. Main part of the film deals with him following a serial killer in his town to find what his motives are, while also showing his internal struggle as a person. Records and Loyd did a damn good job and mc's growth as a person was done well. Directing was also good and the film is packed with some moments full of tension.

Not something I'd deem as great, but not garbage either. It's a solid film and a nice ride, followed by comfy snowy visuals. Graba cup of coffee/tea, a blanket and enjoy. The main character does appear somewhat edgy at the beginning, but as I've already mentioned, he does develop nicely and Loyd made for a solid antagonist.

You guys don't see any similarities? Now that I googled Blunt and compared pics side by side, it's obviously not the same person, but at initial glance, knowing this is a celebrity-obsessed board, I thought the lower jaw in particular was reminiscent of Blunt's; the eyes as well.

watch more Jaume Collet-Serra, he is a very talented and creative director. All of his films are good, but the ones with Liam Neeson are great.
>>
>>79455292
The VVitch, hands down.
Nightcrawler was also great (or was that 2015?).
>>
>>79463725
Yeah, Non-Stop was great. Neeson's best post-Taken flick

>2016

>>79464050
Non-Stop was fantastic use of such a small space. the way he worked around the limitations of it (he essentially made a film in a fucking hallway) was so good, the film never felt restricted and that's mark of a genius to me.

Can't wait to see his next work With Leeson, The Commuter.

Check out Unknown too, real good stufff.
