Something i have always wondered about america:
So theres a time difference of 3 hours between California and New York. But stuff like TV season finales are aired nationwide. So, do they air at different times in their respective time zones to get the biggest viewership or do they air it sooner in some places and later in others (losing a couple of viewers)?
Also if its the second one: Which timezone is the most important one and which is used as the "standard".
I just always wondered this if someone knows please tell me

i phrased it completely wrong. What i meant was
do they air it at different times in different timezones
or
same global time
east coast is further ahead so they typically get episodes first

so if i live in the west i have to stream it or get spoiled on the internet?

There's a Pacific and Eastern airring schedule for a lot of major channels so that people on both coasts get to see a new episode simultaneously.

Examples? I know HBO makes sure everyone gets the episode at once (unless you live in MTN time)
EST is the best timezone in the world for ALL tv events worldwide. Everything is based around EST.

Yes.

same global time

Eastern of course. It's the only time zone that really matters, for anything.

What you are describing doesn't happen for the main OTA broadcast networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW. I can think of one exception off the top of my head, sporting events.
So I suppose you are referring to cable/satellite channels. I didn't know they did that...I learned something today.

I used to live in new mexico. "Primetime" tv started an hour earlier at 7pm. It was 7pm to 10 pm whereas back east it is 8-11.

but isnt Los Angeles on the other side?
why is hollywood and the city of media and entertainment not important when it comes to TV schedules?
>>79391436
Everything airs at exactly the same time but it's a different time to you depending on the zone.
>>79391731
because all the important people live on the east coast.

>why is hollywood and the city of media and entertainment not important when it comes to TV schedules?
What do you mean by important? The only important thing is maximizing money during "primetime".
You can't maximize money over the course of primetime for the USA if everyone watches at simultaneously.

EST hits "primetime" first, if they want to air it at that precious hour for each timezone.
If they waited until, say, 8pm LA time, that's 11 for the East Coast and they'd be losing a lot of viewers already asleep.

ok that makes sense
