I agree and I liked them.

Though portman sucks and wasn't bashed. She was teerible besides with queen makeup in ep I. Same with black swan, couldn't play the white swan ir black swan naturally but once she had the black awan makeup she was fine.

They weren't as good as they should have been. The criticisms are valid and they fuck the continuity in several places but they are fine.

The disney swill cancels out any negativity for them.

The prequels just tried too hard to build a lore no one cared about. Episode VII was well liked again because it was just good action that made you look over its plot holes

The prequels were a lazy cop out

1) It was an excuse for Lucas to go back and do over things "bigger" and "better", not to mention a deliberate mechandising gimmick - notice how every film had a vague sort of background character that had a huge merch and EU campaign? This was deliberate. They developed it first 2 years earlier with the Shadows of the Empire multimedia platform which was a dry run for testing the merchandising for the Prequels release

2) Phantom Menace is essentially the earliest first drafts Lucas wrote around 74/75 - when it was The Hidden Fortress IN SPACE - with places and character names retitled
General Starkiller becomes Qui Gon Jin
His kids Deak and Anikin become Obi Wan and Anakin
The Luke/Leia prototype princess they have to escort back and forth becomes Padme
The Chewbacca prototype becomes Jar Jar
The Wookiees became Gun Guns
Yavin IV becomes Naboo
The Empire becomes the Trade Federation
Luke racing his friends in T-16s and establishing what a good pilot he is he wanted in New Hope becomes the Pod Race establishing what a good pilot Anakin
And because he had become queasy about killing all the bad soldiers that are dehumanised and killed without a thought are now robots
Phantom Menace shares the same weak plotting of those first drafts with people going back and forth and back and forth again and again from place to place
But of the three at least has a plot and basic story

Episode 2 and 3 jettison even attempting to have a story.
Its just a collection of scenes redoing things he wasn't satisfied with the first time around or redoing it bigger and better. Strung together with battles.

And it all shows just how weak Lucas is

He had Gary Kurtz telling him the script needed to be rewritten. Not here. He worked with other writers. Not here. He had to let his wife Marcia Lucas re-edit New Hope throwing out all his meandering subplots and tightening it up. Not here.

if people didnt look at them with nostalgia goggles and if it didnt have the hype, no one would ever care. they were DOGSHIT movies made for manchildren. basically the twilight movies of their era

I think people cared about the back story, but it was ultimately just background for the setting and the characters. All the story you need is in the original three movies themselves. The prequels were superfluous on every level.
