I like a bunch of the MCU films but some of them get rated absurdly high. Ant-Man was the most boring, predictable, cookie cutter superhero movie that felt like it was from 2002 and somehow everyone loved it. It stung especially with how bland it was considering how much more interesting it would have been if Feige wasn't a fagie and let Edgar Wright do what he wanted. Did it really need to be THAT much connected to the MCU? The only thing in it is the scene with Falcon which literally just feels like it was put in there to remind the audience that it's part of the MCU.

Not really. There were reports test-screenings for both were middling. They were just drowned out by DC fans who believe anything negative about the movies is part of a Marvel conspiracy.

Then there's the producer screenings, where WB executives give all DCEU movies thumps up and standing ovations because they're blinded by the dollar bill signs.

BvS was an overly long, dreadfully boring, self fellating piece of shit.

Suicide Squad was a complete mess and a fucking embarrassment that a major motion picture came out edited like THAT.

This is coming from a 30 year old normie with a job and a mortgage and a wife who has zero interest in capeshit and only sees these movies because I'm forced to.

90% of Marvel's movies are bland, uninspired, mediocre and forgettable. DCs movies are dreadful, tiresome, overly serious, and Suicide Squad is a legitimate disaster in its structure and pacing.

I got turned off immediately when the trailer was 2 minutes of Baby Groot. It was funny for the 10 seconds he was in the first movie but using that for an entire movie is going to get old fast. I'm already tired of him and that's just from 1 trailer. It's like if since people liked when Indiana Jones shot the swordsman in Raiders they decided to do that gag nonstop in Temple of Doom. It'd be shitty.

How is Marvel so based?

While DC is churning out heaps of shit, based Marvel is paving the way for true fantasy mediums to be taken seriously.

Capeshit is only a gateway - in 20 years, fantasy movies will generally be far more accepted due to their work.

Aside from some positive PR what does a studio gain from stacking their film's focus group with people they know will give favorable reviews? One of the biggest uses of pre-screenings like these is to identify what the group liked/disliked and to use that data to help craft an effective ad campaign.

Nah I'm not saying he didn't actually direct it, I knew when I was writing that people would think that's what I meant but couldn't figure out how else to word it, but I meant that it shouldn't be used as an example of him being a good director because all of the good things in the movie are lifted directly from the comics.

Haha right on, my fellow /tv/ - Television & Film user!! Marvel Entertainment (subsidiary company of Disney Incorporated) delivers yet another piece of family friendly also action packed movie!! Can't wait to see with my friends, and so do you I'm guessing, unless you want to be a R*ddit.com user or a DC c*ck right? Haha I don't think so!

My hype is bigger than the longcat is long, and as you can see, the longcat is long as h*ck! X.D. L.M.A.O.!! And btw (by the way) remember that pirating is stealing!! Don't be a tumblr.com and go to the theater to support Disney!!

>>79301259
I'm really hoping Disney doesn't keep going with the yearly Star Wars movie thing. They're gonna oversaturate it and Star Wars is gonna lose its special place in pop culture.

Having said that I still appreciated Rogue One and TFA because they felt like the director was actually attempting to make a good movie after Lucas's awful directing on the prequels where everything that wasn't CGI was shot in the most basic way possible. Regardless of your opinion on the end results, you can't deny that Abrams and Edwards both put effort in to make good movies.
Kathleen Kennedy worries me, though. Especially with the hiring of Treverrow to write/direct Episode IX after Jurassic World ended up being bad. But maybe they're trying to emulate the original trilogy with the first one following the hero's journey to a t and the last one being the worst.

Again, it's like poetry so they rhyme. Every stanza kinda rhymes with the last one. Hopefully it'll work.
>>
>>79301553
>From studio suits

>>
>>79301493
Fuck they should have gotten Joe Johnston to direct Episode IX. The first movie he ever worked on was the original Star Wars and he added a lot of things to the original trilogy that became iconic, like designing Boba Fett's armor which turned a throwaway character into one of the most popular ones just because of how cool he looked.
>>
>>79301553

>>
>>79301617

I really don't think they will. Rogue One was a hit but still made about half of TFA being released on Christmas without competition, and also bombed so hard in China that moved the earth from its orbit.

Marvel is facing diminishing returns too, introducing Spiderman in an Avengers movie and making less money than Iron Man 3 is something to worry about. But GotG is still a sure hit, a breath of fresh air in the MCU.

The DCEU will end after JL, I'm sure. It'll make bank just like the others but they aren't building brand (doing the opposite really) and that's what they should be doing at this stage. They are scaring the talent away. At the end of the day it will be the most succesful franchise ever canned, ironically enough

Rogue One did incredibly well for a spinoff Star Wars movie with no light sabers and lack of marketable characters aside from Vader and Stormtroopers.

The capeshit bubble is indeed eventually going to burst, like all crazes do.
>>
>>79301967
I agree completely, and if I or anyone else had made that argument, then they'd be BTFO anon. But alas, none of us did.

Not every movie has to be a deep thought-provoking art piece. GotG is a fun action comedy space opera that sets out of be entertaining and endearing and achieves that as well as any other movie in that very specific sub-genre has I think. You're not going to score any brownie points for saying you like it, but it's a very well made film for what it is.
>>
>>79302039
It's fair to say it's a big team up movie, but it never got the sort of hype or promotion that a bit world-ending Avengers type story does, and no doubt Infinity War will.
>>
>>79302083

A Star Wars movie with Star Wars on the title and Darth Vader scenes? It did good but certainly not "incredibly well"

Also having half of your cast being chinese and then making less money there than Fantastic Beasts is something to worry about.

Not saying they are panicking or something, Disney makes more money than all the other big studios put together right now but they don't have that many franchises if you think about it. It's just that they hare huge. Maybe their live action remakes will be next and they'll manage to relive the Pirates thing but who knows

Iron Man 3 was riding off the hype of The Avengers and they also did some weird shit where they had a complete subplot with Chinese characters that was only in the China release which had it make a lot of money there.

I was shocked that Rogue One crossed a billion. My mom is one of those people that watches Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight and a week before the movie came out she saw a commercial for it and was like "is that a new Star Wars movie? didn't they just make one last year?" and I told her it took place before the original Star Wars and figured she'd understand despite not caring for Star Wars since she saw the original trilogy in theaters, but when I explained how it was about stealing the Death Star plans all she said was "why would anyone want to see a movie about that?" and I said Darth Vader is in it and she was like oh so people will see it for that

normies somehow know more about nerd culture than the actual fanboys. I think it's because if you don't get caught up in the fandom and lore or whatever and just see it from a business perspective you understand why certain sequels are made the way they are

I went into GotG expecting it to be like the rest of the Marvel movies and ended up tearing up in the opening scene. The whole first act is perfect imo but after they break out of the prison it starts to fall apart. If it was a standalone movie and had nothing to do with Marvel I think Gunn could have made it even better, and this board would definitely not shit on it as much as it does.
>>
>>79302554
Test screenings are good for movies like Titanic where there's one person in complete control and they have basically no one to answer to, but generally they end up doing more harm than good
>>
>>79302123
I agree, Vol. 2 is easily the MCU movie I'm looking forward to the most.
>>79302784

Rogue One was made because Disney knew they had to make Star Wars in trilogies and that way was hard to make a good ROI because they'd have to wait a few years between trilogies or they'd burn the franchise real quick. Cooling off periods are bad for investments.

The stand alone movies are the best way to go about that and they started with the safest thing they can imagine. A movie with a diverse cast to pander every demographic, released on Christmas with a massive marketing budget. And all the nostalgia pandering you can fit in two hours.

The fact it struggled to make a billion and it bombed in China is staggering, and they can't really do anything different this year. Just double down on marketing and nostalgia and hope for the best

Capeshit is in a way a return to more classical, archetypal art, with a fixed mythos and maybe certain rules are forming which will become tradition. Just like the more rigid templates in classical art.

Perhaps, in a way, Marvel will save art and move us away from post-modernism.
>>
>>79302914
the movie probably would be more successful if it wasn't part of the MCU. It's mostly standalone but then you get a scene with Thanos which means if you're watching it without having seen the other movies you're going to be confused as to who that is and why he's never brought up again. The context needed from seeing previous films in order to understand just the standalone Marvel movies damages them imo. Like it's one thing for there to be continuity between the Captain America movies or the Iron Man ones as well as them being related to the Avengers movies, but once they all get tied together it starts feeling like a soap opera. IMO Civil War would have been a lot better if they got rid of all of the Avengers that added nothing to the plot (which is all of them except Iron Man and I guess Black Panther if you count him as an Avenger) and focused it on Cap, Bucky, and Tony, since that was the strongest aspect of the movie. They could have given it a different subtitle like The Fallen Avenger or something and then set up Avengers 3 as Civil War.

Definitely. Seeing how Guardians would turn out had Marvel given Gunn 100% creative control and the liberty to make it standalone is something I'll always wonder.
And I agree with the Civil War bit as well. Ditching Zemo and focusing on those three characters (plus Black Panther, maybe) would've made for a stronger movie. Plus it'd have been the perfect Winter Soldier sequel.
>>
>>79303659
According to money, yeah.
>>
You can really tell when something is added to Marvel movies by execs. Winter Soldier was my favorite of the films when it came out but I rewatched it a few weeks ago and the whole third act is really weird. It's not bad per se, but the whole movie has action scenes that aren't really "superhero" action scenes and are more grounded in their settings, but then at the end you have these massive flying aircraft carriers blowing up above Washington and it's just like whoa whoa whoa what.

The Avengers is also dated as FUCK, and that's coming from someone who loved it when it came out. It's borderline-unwatchable now, especially with the TV show look and the bad CGI on the aliens. Ironically enough the Marvel movie that's aged the best is the first Iron Man.

We've really hit a new low.
>>
>>79303796
Phase 1 as a whole is all well shot until Whedon did The Avengers. Iron Man 1 and 2 have the same cinematographer as The Fountain and Requiem For A Dream. They were all done by good directors too. We went from Faverau, Johnston, and Kenneth Branagh to no name directors that have made 1 or 2 films since Marvel can strongarm them easier than established directors. The only exceptions are Coogler and Waititi, but I think Coogler was hired because they wanted Black Panther to have a black director, and not even Marvel cares about Thor movies at this point so Waititi isn't their priority and is left alone while they're busy focusing on Spider-Man and GotG 2
>>
>>79304781
Overall the trailer got 81 million views in the first 24 hours.

Sure thing buddy

Every time Marvel announces a director for one of their new movies they act like they're so well known but its always some bald numale chump who made 1 or 2 short films and 1 indie drama no one saw. Yep they're definitely certified to be given a $150m action movie.

yikes

>>79305091
to be fair at least the directors end up staying on the movie. DC goes through directors faster than Marvel goes through Spider-Man actors, they couldn't even keep Ben Affleck despite him rattling on for a year about how excited he was to direct The Batman

fucking lel. I think its cause DC is still in panic mode over the DCEU and they probably kept trying to get him to do massive changes to the film.

Hell, they're not even using his script anymore.
>>
>>79305155
>>79305247

Nah it's because you're hearing normal pre production drama, look at this shit >>79305095

DC has never fired one guy during production or called another director to do reshoots, or gone massively overbudget like GotG.
>>
>>79305247
what are they odds they get Schumacker to direct at this point

actually now I'm imagining Leto's Joker in a movie like Batman and Robin where half of his dialogue is clown related puns and it might be the the best DC film on sheer entertainment value

>Hillary had 3 million illegal votes cast in a state she was going to win anyway, that makes a lot of sense.
actually, it does. it's not that California set out with the intent to rig their votes, it's that they traditionally let anyone vote, who ever they are. they don't ask for any credentials of any kind, not even a name. any joe blow can show up and vote. it's basically laissez faire
>>
>>79305367
>all those Breitbart lies
>>
>>79305306
They literally re-edited Suicide Squad behind Ayer's back, and they fired the original director of Wonder Woman. Plus you're comparing 3 (almost 4) films and 2 directors to Marvel's 14 directors (not counting Wright and others that have left during pre-production)
>>
And DC can't even made a good Superman movie

hahahahaha
>>
>>79305462
You'd think it would be easy as fucking mashed potatoes
>>
>>79304649

Thor Asgard scenes have always been gorgeous.
>>
>>79305367
but that doesn't explain why she'd need 3 million illegal votes in a state she would win anyway. you just explained why it could happen in that state.

why does this shit always get brought up in every thread regardless of the topic
>>
>>79305495
Better question is where is this magical source of 3 million illegal votes? Still waiting, I've asked maybe twenty times when these autists parrot this dumb meme
>>
>>79305423
NY and Cali were full of fake votes because it's where most illegals are. easy as that. fuck you.

Literally never heard of it so I looked it up on YouTube and it has 8 million views on the official channel, if they're counting facebook views that's fucking bullshit because facebook autoplays videos on mute if you scroll past them and each "play" counts as a view
>>
>>79305439

That Suicide Squad shit would never happen in Marvel because the directors will never be allowed within a mile of the editing room. The rest of them it's absurd to get them fired because they are guys from tv shows doing whatever they are told.

WW director was preproduction too, not the same thing. Many movies get rewrites and new directors, WB is fucking up by trying to bring big names to capeshit when that doesn't work

>>79305567
>What is flash

A movie in preproduction you dumb shill
>>

This is exactly what they are doing and in GotG case counting ESPN ad views I shit you not

Iron Man 3 is kino so you are right.

Trump knows how to con rubes. Also, he's smart in business but he's no intellectual. His being president is the proof that people are getting dumber. Intelligence used to be prized, now your a "fag" for thinking deeply.
>>
>>79305721
>he's smart in business
Then why is he so bad at running a business where he needs to hire a team of other people to run it?
>>
>>79305367
Hi I voted in California and you're fucking wrong.
>>
>>79305721
>Intelligence used to be prized, now your a "fag" for thinking deeply.
Absolutely this. I have no clue why there is such animosity for intellectual pursuits or education in general. You get laughed at by some of these Trumpfags for being remotely well-spoken or coherent. It's anti-intellectualism...and it baffles me....
>>
>>79305534
I voted in New York and can tell you that you there's no way you can vote if you're an illegal immigrant, stop talking out of your ass.

also, there are ~2.4-2.6 million illegal immigrants estimated to live in California, so let's say Trump is just rounding up and it's true. That'd mean literally every single illegal immigrant, including children and the elderly, voted for Hillary Clinton.

I think the more reasonable explanation, and the more likely one, is that she just got more votes than him. But he's the president now, so it shouldn't even matter. But he has too big of an ego to admit fault, and his follows are too cult-like to allow him to look anything less than perfect, so here we are in a thread about Batman debating this.
>>
>>79305827
Anon you can't bring logic to these people, logic is how progressives lost this election.

I don't know if that's a good thing or not.
I loved Iron Man 3, but it had some problems and a lot of people hated it.

nah it was top 3 marvel

small correction: you need a drivers license to vote. California has no problem giving drivers licenses to illegals
