Can somebody give me a quick rundown on why /tv/ circlejerks this specific HP flick so much? Is it the reddit director?

Probably has to do with the idea that it's the first movie in the series with a darker tone.

Goblet of Fire is my favorite.

Who cares when its still part of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

how come harry didnt associate with black kids?

dean doesnt count cause he hated him for snogging ginnyy

and btw why werent there more snogging scenes? the books have a lot if i recall correctly

aand where the fuk is peeves??
>>
>shitty werewolf cgi
>horrible time turner plot
>that ending shot
>muh edgy dark 'teen' style

I have no fucking clue why people loved this movie over the rest. The whole movie series was shit, but 3 is one of the worst ones.

Because the first two films are Home Alone-esque goofy shit that don't match the tone you expect after you read the books. Third one seems like a massive improvement in comparison.

Letting Chris Columbus direct the first two was a mistake.

They actually filmed peeves scenes for multiple films but cut them every time.

Peeves was played by Rik Mayall.

We circlejerk it because it's the least dull of one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises.

The third one was filler but had an interesting twist

From best to worst:

2>1>3>4>6>7>5>8

First two were the best
Third and fourth were alright (only like the 3rd one because of Gary Oldman)
The rest is shit, all filler (third was also filler) fanfiction shipping, WWII meets fantasy, Twilight-style finale bullshit

It's the only one that manages to just capture how insane magic is but how mundane it is to them, like the talking shrunken head n the knight bus just casually slipping through the middle.of London but to them it's every other day , or even the guy staring his soup with his finger.. in the first two the only magic they show like that is to move the plot forward , in azkaban based Cuaron gets enough world building lil shit done that the magical world looks super kewl. Plus the dialogue is alot more natural desu... Plus it's hella whimsical but dark at the same time . The rest just become super action adventure pseudo thriller this one is still omg quirky n hella mature at once

If Sirius doesn't break out of Azkaban, Pettigrew doesn't get found out. If Pettigrew isn't found out, he doesn't go looking for Voldemort again.
>>
>>79296558
Did they have to pick the dinduest looking nuffin for this part?
>>
>>79297046

It was better when it was just a regular school with crazy shit happening behind the scenes instead of overt bullshit, dark lord is back prepare for war things. The series could have peaked with Goblet of Fire if Voldemort didn't come back and drag the series into absolute shit.

It's funny, it's one of the few times in fiction I can think of that the series became worse because of a villain.
