I'm sick of TV shows where the protagonist is this grimdark anti-hero that only looks out for himself and fucks other people over to get more power. What's some shows where the main character is actually a good person? pic related
lol you just made me realize Coop is easily the best good protag I've seen on TV. I can't think of another who comes close because I haven't watched that many shows.
>>79278929
Thanks for reminding me about this show. I always hear it mentioned alongside Twin Peaks and X-Files and have been meaning to look into it. What's it about, anyways?
>>79279086
The state of Alaska pays for medical school for a guy from New York. In exchange, after he finishes school he's supposed to work in Anchorage for a few years. Instead he gets sent out to a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. It has a lot of great characters and some interesting themes for episodes.
>>79279179
Sounds comfy. Thank you for the recommendation anon, this could be just the show I needed.
>>79278878
Carnivale, and you definitely need to watch it if you like Twin Peaks.
>>79278878
You might like Doctor Who. No joke. It's not exactly deep, though.
>>79278878
Coop is awesome. Doesn't condescend ANY of the Twin Peaks community and approaches them all with utter equality and patience in spite of how absolutely absurd the small town of poor deaf and dumb bastards is.
>>79279348
Sure, I'll give it a shot. I hear the show is kind of inconsistent, though. Should I start at the beginning? Are there any episodes or entire seasons I should avoid?
>>79279305
You should check it out. It's a very comfy show.
>>79278929
Guess who wrote for this show
>>79278878
Fringe is legit.
>>79280015
Palpatine?
>>79279370
As much as I admire him I know I'd be looking down on almost every one of those damn characters if I was in his shoes. I guess that's why I'm a bitter desk jockey instead of a spiritually enlightened FBI agent.
Its amazing how perfect and great he is.
>treats everyone with respect
>nice to everyone
>doesn't take advantage of a grieving 18 year old
>solves the almost unsolvable crime
>gets shot and is on his feet the next day
>sacrifices himself
>all does this while drinking coffee and eating donuts
>>79282549
>coffee and donuts
that's his secret. He's always /comfy/
>>79278878
Seasons 2-4 of The Wire have good protags in various arcs. Fuck season 5 though.
>>79282619
I have a feeling the new season wont be comfy.
I think lynch will go full horror and surreal. I see Coop being bad too.
>>79282820
Don't you understand? That's the point of the finale, and the movie. Coop went to the Lodge with an unpure spirit. He was beaten by Bob. He lost.
In the same way that Leland Palmer knew he was raping his child, Coop knows he is now evil. He choose to be. The evil is sourced from within, with Bob as a catalyst.
>>79282948
Yeah, Im not surprised they would go full horror, the movie was great with that, but I might be remembering wrong, but didn't Coop kinda accept the black lodge so Laura can be at peace?
I mean he touched her shoulder and she saw an angel in the black lodge, so i wouldn't say he was unpure, but he sacrificed himself so that Laura could finally be at rest.
He might now be evil though, being in the black lodge for 25 years isnt good for you.
these selfless heroes, especially on the left
too pure for his own time

Major Briggs will never be your dad
>>79278878
Duncan MacLeod is a scary son-of-a-bitch when he wants to be, but he's a very good man. He's also a bit preachy and moralistic.
>>79283118
tfw
;_;
>>79283009
The movie heavily implies that Coop has been beat by Bob in the Lodge. He gives Laura the wrong advice by telling her not to take the ring. He is unable to make headway in the case, and he seems distant and alien, and this is before he even visits Twin Peaks. David Bowie points and Coop and says "WHO DO YOU THINK HE IS?"
Laura is actually saved by Mike, if you remember, when he threw Laura the ring in the train carriage. Mike vs Bob is the crux of the conflict. Who knows what thr he'll is gonna happen.
>>79278878
You might like Seth Bullock, the First Credit character of Deadwood. But it's also possible to make a strong case that the sneaky Jew producers at HBO let the 'villain' Al Swearengen become the actual protagonist.
>>79284424
That wasn't deliberate, it was just that the storylines were workshopped and Ian McShane is such a good actor and intelligent guy he outshone his role. They expanded the importance of the character because he was so good.
>>79278878
Just started Frontier on Netflix, the main character is a really nice young Irish guy. Very likable.
>>79282820
is it weird that i came to /tv/ at 3:36 in the morning looking for a coop jpg that's this quality and i found it?
>>79279419
Not him but personally I liked the older episodes and the first season of the new doctor who. The old ones are less of a continuous story arc and more individual sci fi tales. The old ones vary in.quality though so check IMDb first.
>I'm sick of TV shows where the protagonist is this grimdark anti-hero that only looks out for himself and fucks other people over to get more power.
Are there really so many of these? Gimme some
>>79288223
>>79279419
just watch rick and morty
>>79288235
I think there are a lot of TV protagonists that are dark and brooding, but not many that fuck over other people and only care about themselves.
>>79288235
>the Shield
>the Sopranos
>the Wire
>Breaking Bad
>Dexter
>Mad Men
>WestWorld (depending who you think is the main character)
>maybe The Walking Dead
>>79288396
>Tony
>grimdark anti-hero
Yeah right
>>79288450
>beats the fuck out of a guy who can't comprehend a phone
>misers Ralph on a whim because of a horse
>murders Chris on a whim
>constantly cheating
>curbstomps a guy
>overthrows his uncle to be boss
Some of these had good reasons, but if this shit doesn't mean anti hero then what does?
>>79278878
shepard-commander?
you should watch profit, where the main character is a villain, not an anti-hero.

>>79281654
His name is Senate Sheev
>>79280015
Well now I've gotta watch it
>>79289328
Am I autistic if I always ask myself what Shepard would do in my situation?
I even own the N7 hoodie and mimic Shep's stances and body language
>>79288264
I've only seen a few episodes, but I'm pretty sure Rick is the opposite of what OP's asking for.
>>79278878
Is it gay to want to marry Agent Cooper? Asking for a friend haha haha
>>79282948
How was Coop impure though? He literally did nothing wrong.
>>79291470
>mfw Got compared to Coop, I only lacked the precise hairstyle and taste in clothing, didn't know Twin Peaks, thought it was a chick serie like charmed.
>Years later, watch Twin Peaks
>After a few episodes get flashback to the cutie who told me "Well Anon you are like Dale from Twin Peaks, only your clothes are off and your hair show have more gell" *giggle with her girlfriends*
>Too busy with homework to be bothered by girls and their girl-series comparisons, usually the 'chads' were compared to the husbands of the charmed chicks
>realize I was compared to the best person ever
>talk with highschool friend about this, he watched twin peaks too "yeah your are still that weird"
"weird? I don't really into Tibet"
"No, like an autistic with empathy"
>>79291585
Because of what the Indian-policeman told.
Basically Coop was too nice for his 'doppelganger' and should have faced it bravely/(killed it?) but he ran away.
>>79291943
Post pics
Also >tfw to nice too kill doppelganger
>>79283162
GOUULD?
>>79290047
This is a great idea.
>start spilling spaghetti
>I should go.
>jog away awkwardly
Smooth as fuck.
>>79292103
Nah, I don't look like in the face, though maybe in a generalized sense:
>people don't believe I'm over 18
>am 27
>hairdo always being the same
Best example, which struck my cord watching it
was the reports to [insert name Claire?] on the voice recorder, Asking for how was my day would yield such a report.
But for appearance Johnny Mnemonic would do better {Without the suit and I lack the muscles, far from fat but not as movies actor fit}.
But the comment +- 11 years ago, ATM i'm rocking the Neo before redpill vibe, though with glasses and neet mustache/beard (probably gone next Sunday, lenses should be here Tuesday so When I get another Job I will be Neo/Johnny at the job). {This comparison is only due to hairdo, 'professional' interest and existentialistic-'crisis'. I don't deal in 'hacks'}
>tfw to nice too kill doppelganger
I do fester some hope that it somehow was 'good' that this happened in the new series
>>79278878
Our Idiot Brother
>>79282820
Laura Dern recently said the new series is "hilarious" though, so it won't be full FWWM dark.
>>79278929
>contract dispute
>main character runs off into the woods and is never heard from again

>>79294783
First season was okay, the asian story line was skippable imo. It's a long TNG episode only more grim a setting
Am about halfway through the 2nd...stopped kind of.

Were you asleep while watching the finale?
>>79291585
I presume the anon meant he bad 'imperfect courage' - those are the words used in the show. He was frightened in the black lodge.
>>79294783
Meh.
It has some surprising good and unexpected moments (its not afraid to kill people off) but for the most part it's campy and the main bitch has terrible acting. It also unironically has a plot involving SPACE JAPAN, Katana fights and all.
>>79295362
Yes, I >>79294971 Agree.
Good description of season 1.
