Chinese business interests encouraged the US to take a positive stance towards China from the moment it started getting involved in the Pacific up until the commies took control of China. Those same businessmen fled to Taiwan, and are a big part of the reason for the US being so pro-Taiwan and anti-PRC for about 20 years, until Nixon figured out that China made strategic sense, then later Clinton recognized that it was bad for business to be anti-China.
