I could go on for a long fucking time about all of the problems I had with it. The thing that probably annoyed me the most is that it clearly saw itself as a piece of clever, self-aware satire but had the production quality and tone of a movie made for children in the mid-2000s.
Another thing I found very jarring was that the movie had a lot of fairly intense violence but absolutely no blood or gore, which is a pet peeve of mine.

This is such a weird movie. Tried to watch it when it got put on Netflix but dropped it after the first act.

I normally love high school melodrama movies, but this was so fuckin uncomfortable. None of the characters acted like human beings. I couldn't understand any of their motivations. The "high schoolers" looked like 30 year old actors playing teenagers. Like how the "teenage camp counselers" in Wet Hot American are obviously 30somethings, but in Heathers it's not self-aware. It doesn't help that the "teenage" actresses wear those hideous 80s female power suits with shoulder pads. Completely unflattering and objectively horrible. What a mis step in female fashion. It's cringeworthy looking back on it, it's one of the tackiest fashion movements of the 1980's, and that decade had a lot of terrible terrible fashion. It's impossible to take the Heathers seriously as being supremely stylish and posh when they're wearing god-awful ugly clothing.

None of the characters are likable. I couldn't figure out if you're supposed to identify and sympathsize with Winona and Slater or not. They're terrible people, and Slater seems like a sociopath. The Heathers are supposed to be like the personification of evil high school alpha bitch, but what did they do wrong?

Watched this with my parents back when it came out on DVD. They actually rented it and I decided to sit around, not sure what they were thinking since this isn't even their type of movie.
