two episodes in and I'm getting a real Cowboy Bebop vibe. Sounds like they use the same VAs in the English dub. Is this on par with Bebop?
Not really.. but it has some really REALLY great moments. It's totally worth the watch.
Follow it up with Space Dandy, which I loved for its pacing and atmosphere.
>>79212152
this although i found it on equal footing. the finale is pure awesome so def keep watching.
Yeah it's Steve Blum, and Mugen is basically angry Spike.
>>79212152
I watched the pilot to Space Dandy when it was released and it was NOT for me. But all right anon, I'll do it. This is all on you.
>>79212256
I always wonder why Space Dandy is recommended as a beginner's anime. Probably because it aired in the US and Japan simultaneously. However, the show is actually an experimental effort that's not really all that accessible. It is a generally mixed bag of brilliance and mediocrity, spiced up with an eclectic group of directors all trying to do different things.
Go rewatch the final sequence on the planet at the end of the first episode. Sequences like that are the reason Space Dandy was made, and it flies over the head of viewers who don't really think about the animation.
Oh good, anime talk.
So I should give this a run after I finish up Jojo's?
>>79212084
The baseball episode is my favorite one. I've watched it least 5 times
>>79212460
Anon, there's a lot of anime out there worth watching that's easy to binge.
It's good, but it's not bebop tier
>>79212630
There's also a lot of free time I don't have.
jazz > hip-hop
>>79212084
Shinichiro Watanabe is why you're getting a Bebop vibe
>>79212084
it's by the same guy who made bebop, ya dingus
>>79213472
my good sir!
>>79212084
It's good and it exists to dull the pain of bebop being over.
>>79212256
the first episode of space dandy isn't even close to the best
>>79212380
is right
watch it all, it's kino
>>79213897
Nothing dulls the pain. You're gonna carry that weight.
>>79215001
This
>>79212084
>in the English dub
Is pic related you OP?
rip nujabes
>tfw I like all of this guy's work but nobody talks about one of the best things he ever did
>>79215094

i also enjoy anime but there is a place for it
dont let this become /aco/ and /d/
>>79215342
>implying /a/ allows actual Champloo appreciation and wouldn't just harp on OP being a total greenhorn until the thread dies.
Don't be naive man.
>>79215097
Yo, I'm so hyped to start this. How does it compare to Space Dandy?
>>79213201
If you are that tight on free time I recommend you
baccano, only 13 episodes of pure awesome
>>79215342
It's too late
the /v/eddit cancer feels welcome
we need /film/ now
detroit metal city is probably the funniest anime ever made.
>>79215894
An entire board filled with MCU and DC. I am sure chinamoot will for sure leap on that.
>>79213773
nabeshin das bestas
>>79215867
Oh perfect, good to know. Thanks, famiglia.
>>79215637
It's completely different from his other stuff. It's all character development and slice of life stuff, barely any action. Very drama heavy.
I really enjoyed it though. It's very comfortable to watch, I think. When it's over I actually found myself wishing there was more, like all the other works.
>>79213201
>Short on time
Watch Gundam Thunderbolt. There's maybe 5 to 6 episodes at 20 minutes each. You don't need to have seen previous stuff to really get into it.
>>79212380
>I always wonder why Space Dandy is recommended as a beginner's anime
Because it's episodic comedy where you can easily show the best bits to someone and get them hooked immediately. Very easy to get into.
>>79213472
What about jazzy hip-hop like Nujabes?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJNWvjGhBxs
god they wasted this song during the show
>>79212084
>watching anime dubbed
kys yourself familia
>>79215637
It's a slow paced coming of age story about friendship drama built around the characters' interest in jazz music. It's pretty decent and if you want to get into jazz, it has some nice entry level shit to get you interested.
>>79218144
I outright enjoy the Baccano dub more than the sub. I have thoroughly enjoyed the dubs of Planetes, FMA, Bebop, Space Dandy, Mushishi season 1, and Yuu Yuu Hakusho. Not more than the original audio overall, but still well done. There are plenty of solid dubs out there for people who aren't up for subs.
>>79218368
All good dubs
I'd add FLCL and Trigun.
kill normie anime
The baseball episode is pure kino.
Watching it for the music alone is worth it.

Any recommendations for someone who hasn't seen anything since Samurai Champloo and that doesn't have annoying kiddy bullshit.
>>79218696
boku no pico
>>79218696
Shigurui
Shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu
Eden of the East
Hyougemono
Lupin III
>>79218696
If you'd like to stretch your kino legs, check out Mushishi. The atmosphere is outstanding. Throwing out my best description, it's about how people deal with events that feel completely out of their control. It's episodic as well, so you can always pick it back up at any time. Would not recommend binge watching though. You really don't want it to feel like a blur.
If you have an erection for action and coming of age stories, Mob Psycho 100 is a great option. It's a total visual splendor, the most important takeaway from the show is that it's about the main character being adult rather than being a badass. But rest assured, it's also badass.
If you want pure fucking drama written with a level of depth completely foreign to most anime, watch Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.
>normalfags discussing anime
>>79218788
>>79218823
>>79218826
Thanks brehs I'll look into these.
Is this any good? The art style looks great.
>>79218826
You should know, however, that Mob is mostly a lighthearted affair. If that fits your bill of "kiddy bullshit" then you might want to pass. You'd be missing out though.
To continue, Mononoke is a twelve episode show consisting of four arcs where a guy picks apart mysteries and ghosts do creepy shit, accompanied by great visual direction. The first episode may feel like nonsense but if you're not completely won over by the second, I don't know what to tell you.
Now and Then, Here and There, is what I'd call a flawed show. However, it has such raw depictions of harsh situations that I think it's worth watching. Under no circumstances should you watch the dub though. It will leave you with a sobering feeling by the end of the show where you stare blankly at the screen without realizing it's over.
Lastly, Dennou Coil. I ain't never met a nigga who hates Dennou Coil.
>>79212460
Madoka Magica, got interested in it because it because there are alot of the girls in MUGEN on saltybet and had to find out where all the memes came from.
>>79218962
>I ain't never met a nigga who hates Dennou Coil.
It has a lovely concept and idea, but is boring as fuck as a 26 episode show with all the typical pseudo philosophical shit and dumb "oh the main character is actually tied to the mystery, she/he just forgot!" twists.
>>79215894
>it happened
>it was shit
>it deid
>>79212084
It's just a worse version of Bebop. It's still a fun experience, but know what you're getting into. Champloo exists for when you feel like watching Bebop but have watched it too recently.
>>79219036
It's not exactly a twist when the main character's connection to the goings on is plastered about pretty frequently. The memory doesn't all come rushing back until the resolution, until then she keep piecing more together.
>>79218368
Hellsing (the 13 episode run, not the new Ultimate) also had a dub that was better than the original.
And a great soundtrack.
>>79218823
>Shigurui
Shit's so good. Nice tastes.
>>79219131
I saw Hellsing and don't remember much besides some blonde with huge tits, and this mother fucking TUNE.
Fucking this song right here man God damn.

>>79218823
>Eden of the East
stop
>>79212084
its by the same people, and yeah same dub actors
>>79219721
For the most part it's pretty fun. They screwed the pooch with the ending, but even then it was more of it being a lackluster than entirely awful.
I like this show, but fucking hell keep these threads in /a/.
>>79221288
Why? It's a television program.
>>79221288
>go to /a/
> it's all uguu kawaii kiddy faggot shit
>>79221331
And it's anime. There's a board made to discuss anime on this website, and it isn't /tv/.
>>79221354
I don't see how that's my problem
>>79218980
>saltybet
My nigga, saltybet is top comfy.
>>79221373
So? This board is for discussing films and television programs, and Samurai Champloo is a television program.
>>79221379
If /tv/ got along as well as Saltybet this place would be perfect
>>79221401
So with your logic we wouldn't need a board for anime since we've already got a board for television?
/a/ was created to discuss anime. /tv/ was not created for that.
>>79212084
i think it's better than bebop. there's no ed to ruin the last half.
>>79221609
/a/ is a board where degenerates go to discuss masturbating to 2d girls. The discussion quality is so low, and the people are boring rulecucks so there's not even anything funny like this board. /a/ is the worst board on this site.
>>79212177
>pure awesome
>def
>>79215094
>>79215115
>>79212084
It becomes complete shit midway through and the last episodes are absolute garbage.
I'd suggest you stop watching when you get to the blind woman that plays the shamisen
>it will never be early 2000's again
>you will never come home from school to watch Samurai Champloo and afterwards play CS 1.6 with your friends
where did the time go
