Literally NOBODY dressed their kids as the Ghostbusters in the 80s, fuck this show.
>>
I think Mike having a poster for The Thing in his bedroom is much less believable.

I unironically dressed like the Ghostbusters, had a proton pack etc. I don't expect 2000s kids to understand that was a thing.

Ghostbusters wasn't really geared towards kids, it just so happens kids loved it so they started marketing it to them. That's why GB2 sucks.

When the movie came out you couldn't buy toy proton packs.

So i made my own with carboard boxes for the pack. string for the straps and another string from the carbioard box to the "blaster" which was a stormtrooper blaster that i painted black. I was 7 at the time.

It's everything. We're at peak every single movie is a sequel/reboot/adaptation (I'm not saying this was nonexistent in the 80s, but occasionally somebody did make a film like no one had ever seen before)

And all of the best selling video game franchises right now are the same ones that were the best sellers in the '00s - the new Halo, the new Grand Theft Auto, the new Battlefield, the new Call of Duty. The only exception is Nintendo, who are daring enough to keep making the same fucking franchises for 30 consecutive years instead of 10.

We're fucking poisoned by these things.

I was gonna complain that they didn't use the official toy backpack, but it came out with the later 86 cartoon, not in time for the following couple of Halloweens.

Seems plenty of kids did this.

https://2warpstoneptune.com/2013/10/14/halloween-1984-the-ghostbusters/

> The costumes were built with a pattern that had come out during that year for costumes. The backpacks were simply spray-painted cardboard boxes with shoulder straps. However, a special opening at the top allowed people to drop candy inside, so we could have theoretically mopped up some serious candy because the boxes could hold a lot. While we never got a photo of the rear of the backpacks, my brother designed the outside with all sorts of hoses and accouterments so it would have a “wow” factor that made it look very fancy and techie. The Uzis were just the standard toy gun from K-Mart that you could buy at the time. Through standard rubber hoses, they were then attached to the backpack.

people are giving you answers like they are because you're retarded

the thing bombed theatrically, it came out in one hell week
both blade runner and the thing came out the same day. hey, thats a good thing for scifi right? you not only got two popular cult movies, but you had CHOICE of what to see. one the first week, one the next, or maybe even a double feature right?

no, because E.T. came out the week before, and everyone and their mother came out and are talking about the scifi lite autistic spacebaby and his love of a candy manufactured for the movie
you didnt see et week one? well you better see it week two otherwise your already shutin scifi fanboy self will be even further secregated by the normal public
no time to see the thing, or blade runner, you gotta go see the summer blockbuster everyone is talking about, but hey, at least its scifi right?

What you're thinking, OP, is more like no one ever dressed their kids in GOOD Ghostbuster costumes in the 80s.

A bunch of people in this thread are refuting you by saying they did, but I was alive back then and I can tell that really not a lot of people dressed up like them. Most kids in the 80s just wore shitty generic Halloween costumes. Basically zero stores ever sold pre-made pop culture costumes, so your mom would have had to go find the jumpsuit, paint some proton pack, and all that shit. That just didn't happen that much.

Ghostbusters was fucking huge for like a three year period, though, so people definitely dressed up.

that's what struck me as odd. Those costumes look way too good to be anything slapped together by kids of working class families or their parents. It looks more like a decent cos-play than a normal Halloween costume
>>
>>79172138
I have no problem with them dressing up as ghostbusters, I'm sure that happened somewhere. What tickles my autism is that they're wearing pretty much movie ready replicas and not pieced together tin foil and cardboard costumes

pic related is a great review on Stranger Things that I agree with but so you guys won't shit all over me, like the last guy who posted it, I'll post some of my own little notes on why I hated it.

>lazy intro I could probably make in ms paint
>the intro music is also the same, lazy synth to be "so retro"
>one of the biggest problems was revealing all mystery in first two episodes. so all we did was follow around these boring kids while we already knew everything
>kids couldnt act very much apart from main one, but that's to be somewhat expected
>Ryder I thought also did an awful job, but it just might of been that I hated her character
>guns don't hurt monster, yet a skinny loser with a bat hurts monster
>super lame monster design
>bad cgi
>ugly colors
>wanted to be twin peaks mystery wise and failed [citation needed]
>netflix

Just some quick thoughts, if I thought hard about it I'm sure I could bring up some better points.

there is some truth to what you say. The question then is: is there room for horror in the 21st century? we are living in a horrific historical point, yet wasn't that the complaint of everybody? even back in the 80s.
And waht was really that boom of horror in the 80s?
It was the fear of the u.s. in front of the unknown: the characters are growing up in typical towns (the common man, the central figure of the american dream, his life now the vehicle of the story) and they face the unknown, the terrible dangers of something not confronted in the past, find its weaknesses and with their ingenuity and wit exploit them and win. Moral: the american dream finds a way to prevail.

I don't teach the younger kids that often but they don't seem to pick on one another. Bullying tends to start at around 5th grade, after they stopped wearing costumes. It's usually about money, looks, or intelligence.

TMNT where not a thing till like 87/88 and neither where other groups of heroes. I mean, there where no thundercats, no power rangers, no nothing... and even with Eleven they would have fell short for a D&D party though i honestly would have preferred it.

Would have been a little more obscure and it makes perfect sense for kids that play role games and have a friend trapped on another dimension.

I dressed up as a Ringwraith for Halloween once (animated LOTR had been out the previous year). Everyone complained about me waving a plastic sword around because they all thought I supposed to was a Jawa,

And then when I explained it they all asked why didn't the Hobbits just fly to Mordor on the Eagles. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
