Tree of Life is probably the safest answer I guess.

The Grey is the most criminally underrated film of the decade so far though. It's pure kino and a borderline masterpiece and it received virtually no recognition whatsoever.

Honestly it feels like someone sent Affleck just the pages of the script where he is being interviewed at the police station, and then tries to kill himself.

The movie doesn't know what it wants to be. It jumps between dark comedy, to just flat out drama over and over again. Several plotlines just weren't built up enough either. They really half-assed it when trying to make it seem like Lee was a pariah in the town, because... reasons.

That being said, I get the feeling that the writer was self-inserting quite a bit. He knew exactly what would trigger a panic attack and executed it perfectly. Someone actually showed off what one was for once. They also did a great job showing what a shell of a man Lee is. That because of his past, through no fault of his own, he cannot be the person that people want him to be.

There is a lot of good in the movie, but there is also a lot of bad.
>>
Nightcrawler is fantastic, especially since it was the director's first film. That's an incredibly impressive first outing.

Easily the worst Fincher movie. He should be shot for that fucking terrible CGI. Especially since he clearly knows how to handle CGI, he absolutely showed zero interest in the film with such sloppiness. Also, he got called a little bitch by Tyler Perry.

Said the person whom thinks Interstellar is best anything, let alone a decent film and not what it truly is, Nolan's pathetic attempt at being Kubrick, which, mind you, will never happen.

>>79127662
Inception is mediocre garbage that could'ev been interesting, since it's premise gives lots of room to play around with which Nolan turned into another run of the mill action flick. Satoshi Kon did it before him, and did it better with his film Paprika.

Again, you're in no position to call anyone a pleb if you actually think this is true. It's visually unappealing, filled with expositional dialogue since Nolan has no faith in his audience, most of the characters were 2D at best, "MUH LOVE TRANSCENDS THE LAWS OF PHYSICS", are some of the reasons why Interstellar can not be considered as anything more than okay, if that. Keep blowiong Nolan off, you're doing a good job, faggot.

I though Take Shelter was amazing but the ending ruined it a bit though.
>>
>>79128204
yeah, but let's be honest, when someone hears about a movie about a sniper going to iraq anyone would think it would be meant to glorify him.
admittingly the ending with the funeral clashes a littel with the movie's intent, but on the whole I think its message was quite clear, especially considering it shows the family of its nemesis too (ok, it was the bare minimum at humanization, but at least there wasn't a clear cut between the good guys and the bad ones).
>>
>>79128148
>hell no
Hell yes. It feels so mundane and overall fake. Shots do nothing interesting for over 2 hours of the movie nor does it convey the plot in a meaningful way.

>characters speaking their minds is somehow bad
Well, if your definition of dialogue is to cram as many infodumps as you can, then sure, it was great!
>Most of the characters were 2D at best
Outside of the main character, they were. Inception suffered from the exact problem.
>You didn't get it
Sorry, I'm mentally challenged and don't get the excellence that Interstellar was.

Watch 2001, then return and see why you're wrong.

Thought that film was incredibly boring, that only had 1 (one) scene that actually justified the animated medium, and would not have been received as well at all had it been live action.

Birdman is top notch tbf. The Revenant was garbage though.

>>79131308

The movie is incredibly self-aggrandizing and ultimately rather shallow. It's mildly enjoyable but all you have are characters theatrically delivering emotions in monologues (oh wow! that's the point because it is about theater!) that ultimately get rather tiresome. The style serves little purpose beside seeking to impress. Ultimately the movie is just rather superficial and doesn't communicate much of value.

It's okay but nowhere near being great. Embarrassing that it beat something like Boyhood.

Boyhood is always going to be remembered as a masterpiece. It's still talked about, written about, and referenced as a high point in film in the last few years. It's not the best film of the decade so far, certainly one of the best, but it is one of the most quietly audacious and interesting. This board's memes about it are one of the most embarrassing aspects of this generally tasteless shithole. I don't mean you in this case but this board rejects the movie largely because of a video of three manchildren who love Star Wars.

I'm the guy ragging on Birdman and I thought BvS was pretty good. I hate superhero trash but Snyder is one of the better vulgar auteurs around.

Whats so good about boyhood?
>>
>>79131956

Deeply moving slice of realism that has an extraordinary amount going on beyond the surface. Takes Godard's notion of every film being a documentary to perhaps one of the most extreme manifestations ever. It captures what looks and feels like real life in a way that takes few missteps and offers a profoundly moving look at time, memory, life, etc. I think it's one of the most generous films Linklater has made, a movie that asserts the beauty found in even the smallest of lives without seeming pandering or sentimental.

Yes because sharing an idea about the philosophy of film is the exact same thing as making movies like that person.

Linklater has almost nothing in common with Godard. Far more like a Mmurican Ozu.

The Grey deserves its Underrated status as it advertised itself as LIAM NEESON PUNCHES WOLVES IN THE WOODS and although what we got was infinitely more substantial and meaningful than that, it still was one hell of a cop out. I love the movie tho.

IMHO, the best film of the decade is Nightcrawler.

But, if we talk about the movies that will be truly remembered as defining of this decade, Her is probably the correct answer.

You can say Drive too, as it set the 80's nostalgia tone that we've been living.
>>
>>79132854

This. The best films of the decade are all European or Asian. America fell back far after the drastic fall of production costs.

Are you retarded or just lack reading comprehension? I never said the space craft and the probe looked fake, but the style of the cinematography made it seem that way.
Also, focusing on only one of my points and ignoring others mean I'm right or you're just unable to refute.

Kubrick made some great films, but 2001 is not one of them.

Okay, first and foremost, your a retard with low attention span or just run of the mill tryhard on /tv/. Regardless, you're a fucking idiot if you think 2001 is shit and one of the weaker Kubrick films. HAL 9000 was a well written character and the visuals were amazing, but I can't comment much on it's meaning and all that, since I have only seen the film two times and I still found it quite confusing. Just because you don't get something, doesn't mean you should call it shit and what not, grow the fuck up, faggot.

The one complaint I had (and it's a small one) was how the character changed under pressure throughout the movie. He was supposed to be unemotional and had complete cofidence in executing his business moves, but was shaky and nervous around the police. It threw the tempo of the movie off a little for me

You're comparing the tribute to the original and expecting it to outshine. A good tribute doesn't outdo the original, it respects the greatness by slightly underwhelming in comparison.

I wouldn't expect you to understand this.

Faking what? The guy is completely unstable and highly dangerous.

He's solitary, doesn't have any friends and invariably uses people as means to his own success. He has no regards for the law.

Correct me if I'm wrong but most sociopaths behave accordingly to this pattern.

I'm a little disappointed to see that you don't reach very far in scope. I mean, there were truly original movies to come out during this decade.

Tsar (2009) was amazing, Hard to be a God was unclassifiable, Calvary, Tabu (2012), Only Lovers Left Alive, and so many more I don't immediately remember.

This is sad
