I think Hour of the Wolf is the closest one to it. The part with the rabbis in Fanny and Alexander had a similar supernatural feeling to it and they way the two actresses elevated each other in Autumn Sonata reminded me of Bibi and Liv in Persona.

Love witch has me interested in checking out more of that directors work. I thought it was occasionally funny and it did a great job on its period aesthetic through its acting style, costumes and sets. It veered close to being a bit overly long for what it was and almost gets heavyhanded. Solid film for the most part though.

I feel burnt out on French films for the time being, I've overwatched them.
As for the 4 recent watches:

Seance was pretty much Kiyoshi kind of still finding his voice, the characters could have had more time to be fleshed out but we still get an emotional attachment to them. Clever cinematography and visual/camerawork and allowing the horror to creep up on the audience gave it an eerie, well built up mood, the bgm also helped without being too intrusive.
Dodgy plothole though involving the case and theres a rushed ending.

Nuit noir is a compotent Lynch/Cronenberg/Kafka ripoff that has the odd interesting scene and creates a satisfactory weird, surreal mood.

I expected whistle down the wind to be mawkish, maudlin shit but its actually a kinda moving, sometimes funny, tense film about childhood innocence to a a degree. Cinematography and particularly the kid performances were better than I thought they'd be.

Walk like a crazy horse is pretty much poor mans Jodorowsky, with dick and faeces humour, juvenile and strange but executed right so that it ends up being funnier than it has any buisness being.

It's the musical score. Makes it sound like a Disney production. It might've objectively been better without it, but in all honesty I've grown to love it.
Did you get any The Spirit of the Beehive vibes from it? I have a feeling Víctor Erice might've been partially inspired by it.

Didn't care for the songs, but above all it showed a great idea but never really took it anywhere fast or ambitiously enough, felt like a waste of a good premise/potential and it wasn't as funny as I'd expected, wanted more crazy ass violence too.
