Changes have been made of course to fit it better into the new medium. The plot's being changed a bit to have things happen faster. The good news is it's Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck writing the show as well.
>>

Bobbie is in the 2nd season. The first season ended with Eros, but they've moved things and characters around the timeline a bit (Avrasarala for instance shows up right away in the first season).

It's probably the first successful show in a long time for scifi. If they actually quit fucking around with the region coding and put it up for streaming it could do pretty well.

But yeah. I'm guessing it will have a solid 3 season.

Miller losing the hat was the best thing ever, and I really liked that he was actually bitter about his friend being killed despite being told that he was going to leave them behind and actually supported it.

his character made me turn around on Thomas Jane as a whole.
>>
>>79091158

They're the only ones with a good plan i.e getting the fuck out of dodge.
>>
>>79087831
Miller is completely justified in shooting the scientist.

He's the only one that can continue the project, if he dies the whole protomolecule human experiment shit ends at Eros. Miller knows the scientist will find a way to bribe Fred or whoever and carry on, Miller also knows he doesn't care about killing belters.

Miller did a good thing, it's just you can't really do a character internally thinking on a tv show well. Miller finished this protomolecule shit or did he?
>>
>>79091529
>Miller is completely justified in shooting the scientist.
kek, no. Miller had terrible one-it-is and shot the only person who knew anything about the virus.

Even America took home Nazi scientists after WW2 and their work..
>>
>>79091529
>if he dies the whole protomolecule human experiment shit ends at Eros

>Scientist argues that this was a weapon intended for take over Earth

>>
>>79091584
Yes they're bad and that's why killing the most knowledgeable person with regards to the virus was silly emo thing to do
>>
>>79091568
Miller stopped a man that believed genocide is justified for a chance to understand the protomolecule. They have no results, they've learnt nothing even after Eros. They'll just keep killing to try.

>>
>>79094085
The only known source of the protomolecule is Eros and the Sample the roci crew hid.
>>
>>79094135
He's saying the initial part with Phoebe, the protomolecule came from "somewhere" extra-solar.
>>
>>79094166
Yeah millions of years ago, if the aliens were going to shoot another bullet they would have.
>>
>>79094230
What if it's an alien race that just eats the protomolecule and they launched thousands of those payloads to create an ever increasing food source based on it devouring any detected biomass? They'll just stop by and wonder why their food went bad.
>>
>>79094135

It came from an extrasolar object. There's no way of knowing if there's more out there.
>>
>>79094230

Maybe they did. Space is big. The solar system could be full of fragments of protomolecule just waiting to be found. There are over 150 million known asteroids in the solar system and that's only the ones over 100m diameter.

>>
>>79104195
I think the thing about it is that it doesn't really have a distinct flavour, it's just a very reasonable and grounded scifi setting, but since it's so rare for a scifi TV show to not be trading on some specific gimmick its lack of particular identity seems fresh and interesting.
>>
>>79103280
2 reasons.
1. It was clear that Dresden was convincing enough to win over Fred Johnson. It doesn't come off well in the TV, but Dresden is part scientist and part slick business guy. Miller was afraid if he didn't put him down he would just talk his way into some kind of immunity and it would be too late to get justice.

2. By keeping the all the information a secret it makes it impossible for any one group to utilize the protomolecule in order to weaponize it or profit from it. Miller didn't trust Fred or OPA enough to allow them to keep the info

Actually, in retrospect they made a lot of changes with Thoth station that I didn't enjoy. In the show the station is far too spooky looking. The Thoth station in the book is supposed to be comfortable, with natural style lighting and plants everywhere; it's indicative of the money back the station.

Also, I hate that they changed the martian helmets. I know for the actors sake it makes more sense to show their faces, but the martian helmets from season one were much cooler.
>>
>>79104638
The ones on the Donnager weren't Goliath suits though, if you notice Alex wears one of the Donnager style helmets during the space battle
>>
Why was the space station protected by men with paintball guns? Also why did Miller limply that prisons are protected by guards with paintball guns?
>>
>>79104871
Don't remember exactly, but I think it's because (a) the paintball guns are non-lethal riot control gear (sticky gel or something) and (b) the guards are equipped to fight the scientists because (c) they dont expect boarders

So, in the first scene we meet the Martian cadets, they are in the locker room. We are introduced to three black males and two white females. That right there is a little suspect. In the next scene, the cadets are on the bridge, receiving orders from their commanding officer. In this scene we see a young, white male cadet.

Mars has a magnetosphere, just a thin one.

To terraform mars you need to do two things.

add a breathable air.
Warm it up.

Adding more air to it will help in the warmup.

The main issue is that it is lopsided. Mars has about 1500 nanotesla worth . Earth's is ~65000 nanotesla for comparison) but it really does not exist in the north. 1500 nanotesla is actually enough to provide some real protection for humans, which means the south is much easier to settle then the northern parts of Mars (where you must dig deep to protect yourself.

>>79110660

It doesn't, though. It has an overall magnetic field with some regions of higher intensity as a legacy of the magnetosphere it once had but there's a reason the word magnetosphere exists, why they don't just refer to it as the Earth's magnetic field.

>>
>>79110778
The south is also warmer thanks to the seasons Mars experiences.
>>
>>79109840
We don't know exactly but I think it's fair to say it would take geological time periods for Mars to lose an appreciable atmosphere.

Look at Venus. It doesn't have an internal geomagnetic dynamo. It holds onto its atmosphere via the magnetic field generated between the interaction of the atmosphere with solar winds alone.
>>
>>79110741
Anon - it is defined as "the region surrounding the earth or another astronomical body in which its magnetic field is the predominant effective magnetic field." - that is the definition. Some have slight rewordings.

Prior to 1997 it was thought mars did not. However after 1997 it was discovered that yes, Mars has one and that Mars magnetic field is the predominant effective magnetic field and can be detected in orbit.
>>
>>79110884

Except for the fact that the south has a much higher elevation and therefore a much rarer atmosphere. The north would be much more habitable than the south once Mars gains an atmosphere.
>>
>>79111171

>>
>>79111171

>The north would be much more habitable than the south once Mars gains an atmosphere.

Well once you have a atmosphere, you might start getting surface water, then a lot of the north will be under water.
>>
>>79111300
That would be a shitload of water and the temperature would need to be a lot higher than it is for it to be liquid.
>>
>>79111300
There isn't that much water.
>>
>>79111335
Earth breathable air would put it at about -40 -> -35 degrees (C of course).

But if you added that much atmosphere you might as well add greenhouse gasses to get it above 0.

If the Mars Ice caps melted the whole north of mars would be under about 18 feet of water IIRC.

More than five million cubic kilometers of ice have been identified at or near the surface of modern Mars, enough to cover the whole planet to a depth of 35 meters (115 ft). Even more ice is likely to be locked away in the deep subsurface

I was wrong - there enough water to cover the entire surface of mars, not just the northern regions.

In The Vital Abyss it tells you about some weird thing that makes people sociopaths so they can do this research for the company without giving a shit.
IIRC he lets the pov character try it and I think it maybe hints that Dresden has it too.
I imagine the pov character from that book is going to be the one guy they took alive.

A) That's if the crust doesn't hold any water, which it would. There is a lot more water below Earth's surface than above it.
B) That's if Mars was perfectly flat. It's not therefore it would cover a whole lot less.

The 10 year old source means the number is a low ball compared to what we know now. Since then MRO has done a shitload more work, Curiosity landed, MAVEN, ISRO and ExoMars TGO entered orbit.

Last November JPL announced the finding of an ice pack beneath the surface of a comparable volume to Lake Superior (MRO examined it).

The north as a rule is much lower and would be the main location for the water to end up.

I don't think it would cover the entire South. I've never seen or heard of predictions that expect that. Mars is still relatively dry compared to Earth.

I do not as well. But the North would be well flooded into a sea.

Sorry, I meant North. I don't think it would cover the entire North. I've never heard or scene any predictions that say it would. A significant portion but not all of it.

Still a huge chunk of the north...
