Any other critically panned movies you enjoy, /tv/?

>Apart from the atrocious CGI, this was actually pretty enjoyable.
No it wasn't. It was the same Kurt Russell movie without Kurt Russell.

Oh and an alien ship at the end because fuck it why not.
>>
>>79063959
That's all I was looking for from it desu. Didn't hold a candle to the original, but I really thought people were too harsh on it.
>>
>>79063877

Battlefield earth
>>
>>79064013
You were looking to watch an inferior rehash of a classic movie?
>>
>>79064104
Because I enjoy the original and snowy environments and watching both of them together is a great way to kill an afternoon.

Its not some grand piece of cinema or anything, but watching monsters get burned is always fun.

I wonder if there is enough footage of the animatronics only version of the film. I would love to see that.

I love the original, but thought the remake was alright. strong atmosphere and visuals and some good perormances.
I also liked the idea with the dental fillings, that was quite clever.
>>
>>79065040
Yeah I read an article last night about how they fucked over the anamatronics guys and just traced over their work with shitty CGI because it "looked too much like an 80's movie"

What could have been
>>
>>79065686
>What could have been

You got what it could have been. Animatronics doesn't save bad movies.
>>
>>79064489
So no discussion is to be had about the subject then? Are you really this much of a push-over in real life?

>thinking man's movie, The Thing operates undercover unless directly threatened, and tries to turn people against eachother. Hard to tell who's who, and alot of character interactions are central to the plot
2011
>a slash flick that happens to have about 1 whole minute of character interactions before a monstrosity is running around the site killing eveyone
>when this isn't happening The Thing just splits it's face open when more than 1 person is around for shits

They could replace The Thing in the 2011 movie with Jason and there'd be hardly any differences. 2011 one sucked ass
>>
>>79065735
That's the point of the thread, it wasn't bad. I enjoyed it, the practical effects would've added to that enjoyment.

I don't think it wouldve elevated it to a classic or anything but it would have been nice.
>>
>>79063877
so its worth watching? have been thinking about giving this one a try
>>
>>79065884
>I enjoyed it, the practical effects would've added to that enjoyment.

Fair enough, but I get tired of people thinking the animatronics WOULD HAVE elevated it.
>>
>>79065988
Not OP but here's how I would rate The Thing films:

>The Thing from Another World
8/10

>John Carpenter's The Thing
10/10

>The Thing (2011)
5/10

The 2011 prequel isn't terrible but it isn't good either. If you really love John Carpenter's The Thing and want more of the same then watch it.
>>
>>79065380
This webm makes my dick hard desu
>>
>>79065988
Not really, it won't hurt you; but it's not worth the time; even if you ignore the CGI.

>Waste a good amount of time trying to setup MEW's character
>No mystery at all
>No build up to anything, everything happens in one scene
>A way to identify assimilated beings is thrown right away
>Survivors

There are, however, two positive things I can say about the movie:
The soundtrack is pretty good.
The ending scene, a bridge between the prequel and the intro from Carpenter's film was really well made.
>>
>>79065988
>>79066070

I am OP and agree with this pretty much, I'd probably give prequel a 6/10 but again I really enjoy monster movies and The Thing is one of my favorites so I'm biased that way. Worth a watch on a lazy afternoon or something.
>>
>>79066196
The ending scene makes the entire movie pointless and it adds nothing to Carpenter's film.

That got mainly good reviews though.

Jingle All the Way is genuinely my favorite Christmas movie. I spent most of my childhood wanting a turboman :(

I have issue knowing they had practical effects like the original, then scrapped it for cgi later.

I saw a clop of the helicopter scene where the things head splits down the middle where it was showed in cgi and practical and practical looked so much better and would hold up better down the road.

What a shame.

I don't think practical effects would've saved the movie since it had a lot of other problems. But fuck whoever retarded producer or studiohead decided CGI was a better choice.

It was better than 3 at least. Didn't really like superpowered clone Ripley. Also, friggin David Fincher directed 3, it should have been much better.
>>
>>79066763
I can agree with this. It's not nearly as good as the original, but it took some interesting choices and has some great effects and performances. Some parts are unintentionally hilarious though.

It's a shame that we'll never get a director's cut or something with the practical effects added back in. I think the end with the pilot would have been so much better. >>79067204
