I gave. Even when I was discussing it with my best friend after we watched it I really defended it. But all in all it is really one of the weakest movies they delivered in the franchise so far, if you put off any fanboy glasses. It's shocking how underdevloped the characters are...

The character arc is complete in A New Hope, who cares how he became cynical? They made him a deadbeat dad in Episode 7. In the backstory he's gonna be a bitch that gets saved repeatedly by Emelia Clark and Lando Calrissian.
