No piece in any single medium of art from the late 1980s till now can compete with ROTS.

It is true 21st century art. It is up there with Byzantine paintings of the works of Wagner.

This piece conveys themes of love, greed, power and politics, the fall of democracy and the rise of dictatorships, the premise is set in a far-spanning war, an age of heroes. It is a tragedy, on the level of the Greeks.

When you look at it as a piece of art, and look at the imagery, the use of digital animation, extravagant clothes, the use of mythology, history, and the message it gives- it almost feels more like an opera than a film.

The film opens with a grand battle in the skies over Coruscant, using kinetic art not seen since Duchamp or Calder.

This entire film is orchestrated with the gothic, incredible ferocity of John Williams' soundtrack, which makes the piece similar to a work of Pagliacci. There is hardly a moment in this that does not feature music.

The fall of Anakin and his duel with Obi-Wan takes place on a planet of fire, literally symbolising the descent into hell.

The duel is choreographed not as a fight scene, but as spectacular theatrical dance. It is visceral ballet.

Throughout their duel, great industrial structures collapse into fire symbolising the falling of industry as the "golden age of the Republic" comes to an end. As they fight, the Emperor and Yoda duel in the Senate signalling the utter destruction of democracy. As the Jedi are wiped out, the Republic crumbles and Padme dies, Darth Vader and the Empire are born.

It shows us the decadence of the Republic, the horrors of war, the corruption of the Jedi Order.

And to end it all, we see the two twins- Luke and Leia, split up and carried by two men, veterans of the conflict, doing their best to get away from it all and help protect these children, a very sentimental message from Lucas, coming from his personal experience on the importance of father figures.

This film is art, crafted by a patrician
>>
dude let's have anakin literally murder children. That's pretty evil, right?
>>
>tfw there are people out there that think this kino is a bad movie
Maybe in a hundred years will it finally be remembered as the apex of mythological hollywood filmaking. We still live in a time when halfbaked toy commercials like TFA are celebrated by critics worldwide.

>In 2012, art critic Camille Paglia praised the film in Glittering Images, comparing some of its scenes to works by modern painters and calling it "the greatest work of art in recent memory".[73] Paglia explained that the film's finale, "has more inherent artistic value, emotional power, and global impact than anything by the artists you name. It's because the art world has flat-lined and become an echo chamber of received opinion and toxic over-praise. It's like the emperor's new clothes -- people are too intimidated to admit what they secretly think or what they might think with their blinders off. Episode III epitomizes the modern digital art movement, more so than other piece from the last 30 years. I had considered using Japanese anime for the digital art chapter of the book, but it lacked the overwhelming operatic power and yes, seriousness of Lucas's Revenge of the Sith."[74]

Are there really people who think George is a misunderstood genius, and that most people just don't really understand the prequels?

Guys, you need to study the basics of movie making.
>>
>>78999233
You still don't get it and you likely never will.

You're thinking of Star Wars narrowly as a series of movies when Lucas's vision was for something much more than that- the medium of movies was purely his vehicle for his project. His vision was something of a mixture between opera, 1930s serials, silent movies, theatre, dance, and classical mythology.

Pagilia foes praise Revenge of the Sith in Glittering Images, but most of what she talks about is the Star Wars universe itself is a work of art from George.

>No one had closed the gap between art and technology more successfully more than George Lucas. In hi epochal six-film Star Wars Saga, he fused ancient hero legends from east and west with futuristic science fiction and created characters who have entered the dream lives of millions. He constructed a vast, original, self-referential mythology like that of James Macpherson's pseudo-Celtic Ossian poems, which swept Europe in the late eighteenth century, or the Angria and Gondal story cycle spun by the Bronte children in their isolation in the Yorkshire moors. Lucas was a digital visionary who prophesied and helped shape a host of advance, such as computer generated imagery; computerized film editing, sound mixing, and virtual set design; high-definition cinematography; fiber-optic transmissions of dailies; digital movie duplication and distribution; theater and home-entertainment stereo surround sound; and refinements in video game graphics, interactivity, and music.

>>
>>78999296
And you need to study the history behind Star Wars creation. George did wanted to use some cool elements, but he also used them in the Original Trilogy. You now the big difference? Execution. it doesn't matter if you want to make a pretentious space opera and talk about politics and human nature if you can't execute that properly. You people need to stop reading that much into the Prequels.

I need to stop replying to bait threads

I agree it's a work of art but it could have been a lot better had the dialogue and acting been better. Apart from McGregor and McDiarmid who were phenomenonal, the acting and delivery of everyone else was pretty wooden and stiff

>>
>>78998269
You're right but the truth is that people can not see it because the movies are forever blind by their expectations from the OT. As stand alone films they are better in almost every way. More ambitious. More grand. More thematic.

When you really think about it, the OT is rather shallow. People couldn't stand how different the PT was and how much better it was.

OK Kiddo
>>
>>79003459
1. I don't like sand is from Attack of the Clones
2. Dialogue is not one of the things that makes Revenge of the Sith a work of art. It is an extremely visual, theatrical and aural masterpiece rather than a textual one.
3. Those films are great films, but not examples of brilliant contemporary art forms.

She's actually a fantastic intellectual, but this is one of her laughable opinions, despite the fact that she makes a few good points. Please don't turn her into a meme - look up her views on transgenderism, androgyny and feminism.
