I agree it's a work of art but it could have been a lot better had the dialogue and acting been better. Apart from McGregor and McDiarmid who were phenomenonal, the acting and delivery of everyone else was pretty wooden and stiff

You're right but the truth is that people can not see it because the movies are forever blind by their expectations from the OT. As stand alone films they are better in almost every way. More ambitious. More grand. More thematic.

When you really think about it, the OT is rather shallow. People couldn't stand how different the PT was and how much better it was.
