I'm halfway through and I'm bored by it, I liked the first two books because of the characters and story but its beginning to feel like reading a medieval encyclopedia.

In the books Cersei's trial stuff happens while Jaime is in the riverlands, and he receives a letter from her begging him for help to serve as her champion ( in Cersei's chapter we know that she doesn't give a fuck that he's a cripple because if he dies, they're gonna leave this world together and all ). She tells him that she loves him and all.

But Tyrion told Jaime about Cersei's fucking around and Jaime was more and more over her, and this was the final straw

King Robert was still alive and healthy enough to fuck whores every night when Jon Arryn was murdered, he wouldn't be killed by that boar until months (a year?) later and that was just dumb bad luck that had nothing to do with Littlefinger.

Had Cersei and Jaime been exposed by Jon Arryn, with Joffrey, Myrcella and Tommen being attainted as incest bastards, Robert could have easily remarried (such as to Margaery) and had more kids and/or he already had an heir by a noble woman, in Edric Storm.

Littlefinger murdering Jon Arryn (via Lysa) makes no sense that I can see, as his position depends wholly on Jon Arryn's good graces and any potential replacement Hand of the King could easily boot him out the door.

This is exactly the situation when Sansa is married off to Tyrion; House Lannister now rules the North and the same would happen when Shireen married; some other house would become Kings of Westeros.

It's not that the show has surpassed the events of the books
It's not that what new, possibly spoilery events we got were awfully written
It's that I miss the feeling of anticipation in knowing what's going to happen and wanting to see if the show will "get" the feeling that some events had in the books, will tell things from a slightly different angle, how some things objectively difficult to shoot in live action will be handled
Point is, asoiaf has such a widespread lore to cover that the specific struggles of an adaptation of it were really nice to follow and debate per se, rather than just focusing on the sometimes mediocre plot and arguing if the characters are stupid or not
