Why is shaky cam still a thing after decades of continuous loathing by everyone? The only reason I can figure out is that it allows for lowering the quality of stunts and choreography and makes for an easier job as for editing in cuts.
Because it's cheap to do.
Audience can't pick up mistakes and shoddiness because of all the shaking distracting them.

Plebs see shaky cam and think "omg intensity/action"
it's just another tool for directors to try add interest to an otherwise dull scene.

Mostly a money thing. You an choreograph an action or fight scene. Then you can just film it about 3-4 times from different angles each time and intercut the footage. All you need is a good handheld camera operator.
The old school way was to get individual shots from different setups, maybe one with a dolly, one with a crane, etc… That is all very time consuming and expensive as fuck.
So directors just take the pleb route to save time and money, not to mention they don't have the artistic sensibility to do something better anyway.

lmao, someone should make a video like that except it's someone making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich

I don't even need to open your link to know what movie you're talking about.
That being said, shakey cam has some value when its used properly, re: SPR or 48 days later where it's used to create tension by putting the camera and the audience IN the events on screen instead of being an impartial observer of events.
That being said its horribly over used these days to cover up lazy directing and lame action scenes.

>Bad thing #1 about action films: Story
Dropped. watching films for the story is pleb as fuck

> putting the camera and the audience IN the events on screen instead of being an impartial observer of events
It never once worked for me. The moment the camera starts shaking, I think two things: "I'm watching a movie" and "the movie doesn't actually want me to watch it".

Even the dog is shocked

Taken 3 really was the worst with the shaky cam and the jump cuts
I walked out after the first 2 minutes. If every shot was at least 8 seconds long or something you'd have a full feature

Basically what you said along with easier editing
