There are laods of good movies about the US Army, but are there any good movies about the British army?
>>78934265

Pirates of the Caribbean

28 days later
>army gets hacked to death by man with knife
Zulu Dawn
Films don't get made much about other countries militaries because they do poorly at the box office because Americans wont go and see them
Good luck ever seeing a big budget film about the Rats of Tobruk
Dog soldiers, obviously
Black Hawk Down.Seriously every fucking guy in it is a Brit, is America really that hard up for actors?
Bridge on the river kwai
Zulu
A bridge too far
Waterloo
That's just off the top of my head. I feel like there's much more.
Dog Soldiers
Master and commander
>>78934324
Band of brothers is like that as well
>>78934265
so what, movies about sucking until the colonies and America arrive to save the day?
>>78934324
British actors are famous for never turning down a job if the pay is good enough, and they ask less than American actors.
>>78934324
British and Australian actors are so prominent now because they have an institution of supporting and developing acting, they have acting academies RADA and NIDA that train talent, they subsidize theatre and television and film productions providing work and opportunities to develop that talent
America doesn't have any of this, doesn't have any arts funding, all they can do is hype the next big thing
Kilo Two Bravo (2015)
Might want to turn subtitles on if you can't understand extremely-British accents
>>78934324
>>78934404
>>78934414
Some other reasons:
Actors Equity - productions shot in England have to have a quota of local talent before you can bring in foreigners
Exchange rate favors filming in England
And there are tax benefits on top of that for foreign productions encouraging to film in England
Plus being new and unknown outside tv and theatre they're not asking for 20 million + gross %
>>78934414
(((British))), (((America))), (((Refrigerators from down undah)))
>>78934265
Too much gay sex to market.
>>78934324
>>78934404
I sometimes think it has something to do with the fact British actors tend to look a bit more like human beings too. American actors tend to be perfect 10/10 specimens, whereas the British ones look a bit weird, which makes them seem more realistic.
>>78934534
Lel. Your mother is "realistic" m8
>>78934534
>bar in US TV show
>everyone looks perfect and the place is wonderful and clean
>pub in UK tv show
>everyone and everything either looks like shit or just kinda shit
>>78934460
That looks good. Will watch.
>>78934555
I think it's why Americans think our movies are edgy and gritty, when in reality it's just like that.
72' is absolute kino.
>>78934876
72 or 71? Seems there's two things
>>78934265
"Warriors". Late 90s.
>>78934460
Kajaki is its real title.
>>78934265
Warriors - drama based on the Cheshire Regiment's first foray into the peacekeeping hell that was Bosnia in 1992. Stars Horatio Hornblower, Captain Dick Winters and the Sheriff of Nottingham.
It's in two parts on youtube:

It's like everyone else thinks it's faggy to fuck men or something
>>78935643
Sounds good, thanks.
'71 is really good. Set in N Ireland during the troubles.
>>78935695
Its an added punishment
Dunkirk
>>78935736
Is it pro IRA?
Lawrence of Arabia
there aren't many as we don't glorify our modern army as much as America
Are there really any differences between the British and American armies?
>>78935643
Haven;t seen this in years!
Not really a glowing and heroic movie about the Brits, more a damning indictment of the UN in Bosnia
Still a very good movie, and the scene where the guy has to walk over the truck-load of murdered civilians is particularly haunting
>>78936000
The British Army is very small but full of trained, disciplined professionals
The American Army is huge and full of trash who only enlist to get out of criminal charges
>>78934946
Yes 71 sorry the one about the irish troubles
>>78936060
And yet the Yanks had to bail "our boys" out of Helmand and Basra. Not bad for a bunch of convicts...
Bloody Brits and their bloody WWII myth making. I bet you voted Brexit too!
Back on topic: Kajaki: The True Story is pretty damn good too. Not nice, but worth watching on Netflix
Wild Geese
>>78936153
the British Army were put in charge of the most dangerous provinces in Afghanistan while the Americans sat around in there bases watching anime
>>78936331
This. Afghanistan was fucked for the Brits a lot of the time.
>>78936060
it's idiotic for you to believe this is true
>>78934637
God I wish I was born earlier sometimes, pubs in the UK were so much comfier when nobody gave a shit about posing in tight shirts or looking good, it was just conversation, booze and cigarettes indoors.
>>78936358
Standard british troops are better trained than american special forces
Kilo two bravo is pretty recent
Not a movie, but I enjoyed Bluestone 42
>>78934316
Came to post this thanks a fucking lot for stealing it cunt
>>78934265
what about the Finnish army?
I don't understand the meme where British soldiers are making jokes when shit's completely fucked. Always bothers me in films.
>>78936534
Talvisota
Irish, not British - but Siege of Jadotville, based upon the historical battle (similar to Zulu in that regard) is good fun to watch and well made

its hide and seek
>>78936358
its funny cos its true
>>78936557
I suspect this is bait but; its not a meme, load of citations via google
Other memes that are true; Squaddies swear with every fifth word, Paras are nuts, if its just about alive and still twitching a Marine will be fucking it
>>78936704
>Paras are nuts
In what sense?
>>78936557
It's not a meme you dumb fuck, why don't you enlist and see for yourself. That's common in every single armed force around the globe
>>78936735
>Disclaimer: I'm not a soldier, but I deal with them lots... how to explain
Paras are not really parachutists, that's left in because it promotes a certain mindset. Paras are shocktroopers and only the type of people who have that mentality pass election.
Best example I can think of; during selection they all form up in a ring and are told to beat the shit out of each other. Anybody who blocks is bollocked, anybody who tries any fancy shit is bollocked. Its not about winning its about taking a beating and dishing it out.
>>78936801
Nah I'll keep my bigboy job. Thanks though.
>Shuffle off this mortal coil, you cunt. It's nothing you wouldn't do to us
what did he mean by this?
Just watched Kilo Two Bravo, that was kind of horrible. Don't even know if you could call it a war film. Very good though.
>>78936620
>>78935736
this.'71 was really great.
>>78936557
>It’s a long British army tradition that you can see a century ago in the popular first world war commemoration volume 500 Cockney War Stories. In that book, one cricket-loving soldier is said to have reacted to having two comrades killed and his own leg blown off by reporting: “One over – two bowled – and I’m stumped.”
>>78937278
>“One over – two bowled – and I’m stumped.”
fucking lol
>>78936397
You're an idiot, only 15 year olds say things like that. You're just going to the wrong pubs.
>>78936557
Have you ever watched Generation Kill? That's about the most realistic portrayal of the US army ever put on screen and it's full of very dark humour from the soldiers.
Are SAS really the best or is it a meme?
>>78937409
they're not called Super Army Soldiers for nothing m8
>>78937396
>That's about the most realistic portrayal of the US army ever put
of that specific troop, sure. but there are legitimate Vietnam films that show things as they were, and same goes for WW2 etc.
>>78936397
Try going to one that isn't a Wetherspoons or Yates', or just generally go to a small pub away from wherever the students live.
>>78937409
Most countries model their special forces after the SAS and the SAS trains a lot of them, including the Navy SEALs
>>78937488
Isn't the SAS training the one that kills people though?
>>78937409
Hush!
You don't want to make them angry
>>78936298
This.
Not formal British military, but still a comfy flick.
Why are there no films about a white British officer and his team of insane gurkhas?
>>78937541
So that's what Robert Pattinsons up to these days.
>>78935766
For YOU.
>>78935695
All male boarding school pretty much function under the same rules though, and you have to pay £20,000 for the pleasure.

Is it just me or are only war films based on true stories good?
>>78935939
No, but it calls out the det' and some of the army leadership too
>>78936405
We can't afford to fight like they do so we have to fight smarter, also we aren't better trained than their sf it just seems that way sometimes because of the amount of Americans that get to call themselves sf despite there not being much s about a lot of the f.
>>78936903
I think its called milling
>>78937511
That's less because its so hardcore and more because of a series of safety fuckups. No one should be dying of heat related conditions on exercise in the UK, that's just poor health and safety and risk assessment.
The Sharpe series is British army kino.
>>78937033
Muslims want to kill this. Shameful.
'71
>>78938882
It's more Rambo than it is British Army
>>78935736
It's very good.
>>78938973
It's not very good. The writing is pretty dodgy. Would have been better if it wasn't so obviously made up. It's too filmy in the way it approaches everything.
>>78936331
I always wondered why Bong combat footage always looks the most fucked up. Everyone elses is just some guys taking a few potshots while they wait for bomb to drop, while the Bongs are getting hammered by incoming and desperately trying to fire back.
>>78939075
I've never really seen footage. Have you got evidence of it?
>>78936405
>Unironically believing this
>when ireland has a better military movie than you
>>78939075
Best one is when they are in a field and get attacked from a few feet away. You can see the taliban bodies in the river at the end. Cant remember what its called but it used to be on youtube.
>>78939163
This was a technically poor film, I blame net flix
