>Doctor Who and the Planet of Nude Blondes
The Doctor cracked open the TARDIS door and peered out. There stood a beautiful naked blonde woman smiling at him and holding out a basket of fruit. The Doctor plucked an apple from the basket and bit into heartily, eyeing the blonde's tits while quipping, "To be honest I'd rather get my hands on those melons."

That's an unusual choice. I'd have to say The War Games is my favorite. Ten well-paced episodes of constant escalation.
>>78927360
I need to hunker down and watch that one again. It's (constantly) next on the list, but part of me keeps putting it off because I worry they'll announce that they've rediscovered all of it, or they're planning to animate it.
But Tenth Planet is really, really good at building the tension. It's essentially a bottle episode too, and all of the side characters are fleshed out well. Not to mention it's shot really beautifully. Lots of sweeping camera angles and interesting framing. It's like a anxious/comfy thing going on. And Hartnell sells the hell out of those last five minutes.
In honor of the passing of John Hurt, I present the first three volumes of the War Doctor's Big Finish adventures. If you enjoy this series, I highly recommend you visit the Big Finish main page and support them by purchasing some of your favorite stories.

>The Neverwhen
Not bad. I think of the War stories so far this is the one that best represents what you would want/expect the Time War to be like. People trying desperately to strategize and manipulate time to their advantage while everything around them is constantly changing and being "rewritten." Interesting how the first volume of War stories was basically a story in three parts but the second volume was more loosely plot connected and held together mostly by the theme of "fucked up Time War shit."

>>78927641
I'll always remember John Hurt as the very busy actor who took the time to be a hero in Doctor Who while Eccleston was too busy phoning it in as a Z-list Marvel villain in a shitty Thor movie. Hurt was a better man than we all deserved.
>>78931265
Eccleston's like the deadbeat dad that was really cool to you as a kid, but never shows up once after he leaves you, only giving you so much as a card with a few one-dollar bills for your birthday.
While Hurt was the grandpa you only met well into your adult life, but once you met him, it's as if you struck gold. And while hanging out with him may not have been as fun as being with your dad all those years ago, he had the warmth in his heart to stay with you and brighten up your days even as his breaths grew thinner.
John Hurt was a cool fucking guy who lived an equally cool fucking life. Alien, Hellboy, Snowpiercer, I Claudius, and Doctor Who, none of them would be as good without his input. Hope he's armwrestling and drinking shots with Jon Pertwee somewhere out there.

I like that Not-Master resembles Miles Richardson, so I can pretend this is the closest thing I'll get to having a 12/Braxiatel story.
>>78931882
How long do you think it'll be until we see Braxiatel in the tv series? I feel like eventually somebody would do it, but then on the other hand the longer it is the less likely a showrunner would have any clue who he is.
I was thinking about this a lot recently.

Absent Friends makes me fucking hate the boxset format Big Finish goes for because I'd love to recommend Absent Friends to people I know, telling them it's better than some of the Doctor Who episodes on TV. But then I'd have to tell them "Oh, you have to buy it in a box set with three other episodes you probably won't like as much as this". If it were released by itself like the EDAs, Absent Friends would make a great oneshot to give to friends so they could get into audios. But wrapping it together in this whole Doom Coalition means casuals have to invest more in a first buy.

So, how the fuck did the TARDIS break the time lock and land on Gallifrey in Listen?
>inb4 hurr durr he turned the safeties off
>>78927360
Honest to God, my favourite regeneration story's probably The End Of Time. I never found the Master's plan laughable, and I'm a sucker for 10's exit. Those last 15 minutes were golden. My main qualm with the episode was that "White Point Star" malarkey, it was a bit too deus ex machina for my liking. But hey, those are practically one of RTD's trademarks, I'll give it to him just this once.
>>78933935
Possibly because the Doctor didn't set foot on past Gallifrey himself, and being cognizant of that, the TARDIS could use that as a loophole to get past that lock.
Or because the telepathic circuits cause the TARDIS to travel to places it's not meant to go, like where Missy kept the Nethersphere.
Personally, I was perfectly okay with thinking the barn was in Prydonia until Moffat had to specify it was Gallifrey. Would've made more sense.
>>78933935
Why did you ask a question when you already knew the answer?
>the barn was within viewing distance of the gallifrey bubble this whole time
>in Day it's got a pure blue sky surrounding it with nothing else in the landscape
>>78934101
Moffat claims the lock was broken in Day and no longer applies.
>>78934182
So why didn't 10 get pissed one night and try to go back and fix his wrongdoings during the war?
>>78934275
Because he didn't think of it
>>78934284
300 years or so post-Time War pre-DOTD and it never occurred to him?
>>78934275
Maybe that night he just counted the kids instead, drunk texted Romana, and fell asleep on the stairs
Right lads, do you think there's any way we can trick the world of academia into believing that Doctor Who (novels, audios, etc included) contains enough lore, well-written characters and plots, symbolism, and applicable-to-the-real-world metaphors, so as to warrant it being studied as a course at universities? Imagine getting a degree in Doctor Who. And then you could get a PhD in it, become a Doctor Doctor.
Don't you fucking let this thread die you bastards.
Is this canon?
>>78934967
It wasn't even good. Written by people who had no clear idea what either Star Trek or Doctor Who were like, let alone knew how to mix them together to make a decent story.
>>78935094

>>78935094

>>78935316

>>78935456
OI. Someone post something.
>>78933935
It's never been explained (not yet anyway) how Gallifrey escaped the pocket universe.
Only that they did somehow, and had been hiding away at the end of the universe since sometime after the end of TotD and before Listen.
>>78936972
Think they'll go into it this season?
Also it hasn't been explained how/why the Master's the only time lord to venture away from Gallifrey.
And another thing, is Susan still on earth or not? I mean, almost certainly not, but do you think she'll be back on the show? Perhaps regenerated?
>>78935456
Will any of the Class characters appear in Doctor Who one day?
I'd love Quill to appear, but not particularly bothered about the rest desu.
>>78937092
There he is. Everyone here enjoy Broadchurch? Child rapist subplot coming this series?
>>78937142
To Doctor Who I mean.
Will the Class finale manage to go below 200k viewers? Accepting bets.
>>78937023
Moffat thought series 9 would be his last, and deliberately (in my opinion) left some loose threads for the next show runner to explore.
Will he explore these 'loose threads' himself? Idunno. He has specifically said his aim is 'to keep the TARDIS warm' for one more series until Chibnall takes over. So, I doubt it.
Series 10 will be good fun, comfy, with nothing too deep or complicated.
>>78937023
I'd love to see the Doctor finally make good on his promise to come back for Susan, especially if she's still played by Carole Ann (and I don't see why she wouldn't be).
>inb4 ear stories are canon
You could easily make it vague enough for all the stories to be compatible, this would be their first reunion after the Time War.
>>78937286Class has been pirated to death and still available to binge watch on i-player.
I'll be amazed if the finale gets as many as 200k viewers on BBC1's graveyard time slot.

Is volume 3 as good?
What was Clara's best exit and why was it this one?
https://youtu.be/Rk58yAmBJaM
>>78940547
It really was a based episode. The silliness of the egg thing was so insignificant compared to all the great character stuff like this.
>>78940547
I'd actually forgot how good that was. I was only 16 at the time, didn't realise how good of a character moment this was.
>>78940547
I never liked this scene, particularly. It felt really out of the blue, and slightly forced. The Doctor was completely in the right, in my opinion.
I think my favourite Clara exit was in Last Christmas, just before Saint Nick shows up at the end.
As an aside, I never realised before just how many potential exits she had. I mean, Kill The Moon would have been a little underwhelming, Deep Breath too, but then there's the series finale, Last Christmas, Face The Raven, and finally (as far as we know) Hell Bent. Have there been any other companions like that? Maybe Rory? Rose came back once, not including some teasing.
>>78940802
>out of the blue
The whole episode led up to it. The Doctor really took it too far, and it was good to see a companion finally react naturally to the kind of shit he pulls. It was really human.
>>78940547
End of series 8 has to be the best exit, with each lying about having a happy ending so the other can have theirs.
PRESIDENT: We will unleash the flu in desperate parts of the planet such as Africa, India and South America.
THE DOCTOR: This would kill half of the population. What exactly is your plan?
PRESIDENT: Yes, indeed. People will fret, seeing these poor people dying. But what about the rich, the ones that can afford a vaccine in countries where controlling the flu would be easily done-
THE DOCTOR: You offer a vaccine... a fake one, that's actually more aggressive... killing everyone...
PRESIDENT: Now you're getting it. We've been making up this plan for decades, Doctor. Our genes therapy clinics all over the world will welcome all the rich people fearing for their lives... and they won't come out. Humanity will be no more, and Earth will be ready. Ready for full colonisation.
THE DOCTOR: You do know I'm not gonna let you do that though.
PRESIDENT: You call yourself Doctor, but what is your name? Who are you?
THE DOCTOR: You're not the first to have come here. There have been many attempts to conquer the Earth. I've lost count. Not one of them has succeeded. Not a single one. They all lost and burned and ran. That's who I am.
>>78940859
I just, kinda, disagree with you. Clara'd been acting fairly normally throughout the rest of the story, and I feel like what the Doctor actually did at the end was a strangely decent thing to do. So her sudden outburst there at the end really puzzled me. Not in a "Hmm, that's an interesting bit of character development you've got there" kind of way but in a "Right, let's introduce some conflict that'll get resolved in an episode and a half" kind of way. To each their own though. Respect.

Don't forget to catch the season finale of Class - tonight at 1am on BBC One!
https://twitter.com/bbcclass/status/826164349744070656
RTD era was much (much) better in drama because RTD cares about family and actually develops companion's background story.
Rose had a family. And we've seen a lot of developement of every single character, even her dad. We could see the changes.
Martha: a lot of people say that Martha is poorly written and does nothing. Well, fuck you!
We knew everything about her family, her problems, her friends, her life. Smith and Jones did a great job introducing characters, and we had some developement throughout the season.
Donna's background was revealed too. We cared about Moff, about her mother. It was good too.
One thing that actually helps audience to get into the show: he shows how society is affected by constant alien threats (tv reports, a little sketches like in army of ghosts, characters recall what happened in the past. We kinda know it's really happening)
Russel had drama.
Moffat era killed drama. It's just bad now. We have no background on characters. Literally.
Amy and Rory:
Amy doesnt have family. For plot reasons. We know that. We can see her relatives a couple of times, but they are just there.
We dont know ANYTHING about Rory's background.
S5 was still great though because it was fresh and scripts were actually above average (if not great).
Side characters were kind of flat, but overall Matt and Steven carried this.
We have no reason to care about Clara aswell.
I'm not mentioning she doesn't have personality, maybe its subjective. We have so little background on Clara, and it feels so forced and stupid, that we cant relate to it.
Clara has kid cousins (I guess? Cant even remember it, lmao, what a writing) who were there for one episode. And they were... just annoying kids? Come on.
We knew that her parents met because of the leaf. But we havent seen any communication between Clara and her parents. In "TotD" we've seen her family and grandma. And then again, it was just... there. No involvement at all. This really upsets me.

You were born in this universe.
A universe where there is poverty.
A universe where there is misery.
A universe where climate change and vicious disease threatens your prodigy.
A universe where, last year, Doctor Who was off the air.
But there's another universe too.
A universe in which you were not born.
A universe that makes you wish you were.
For in that universe,
There is no poverty.
No misery.
No starvation.
No disease.
For in that universe, Doctor Who was not off the air last year.
Because there, Doctor Who is always on. Every day. Every second.
Doctor Who, in that universe, is everywhere.
And you, dear citizen, are bound by law to watch the never-stopping era of Gareth Roberts.

Never heard of "show, don't tell"? That's where Moffat falls short.
>DOCTOR: Lovely species, the Aplans. We should visit them some time.
>AMY: I thought they were all dead?
>DOCTOR: So is Virginia Woolf. I'm on her bowling team. Very relaxed, sort of cheerful. Well, that's having two heads, of course. You're never short of a snog with an extra head.
>DOCTOR: But it might take me a little while, so do you want me to tell you a story? (punch) Argh! The Brothers Grimm, lovely fellas. They're on my darts team.
>>78943045
But clearly neither showing nor telling was necessary in this case, if the characters are so deftly drawn that you make up your own headcanons about what they do offscreen.
Be honest.
Do you really believe ANY of Moffat era companion were written better than ANY of Russel era?
>>78942640
I agree. The Moffat era has good stories in terms of being cool and clever, but the drama is gone. All the characters are too special and we dont get to know about them outside that special thing they do.
Im sure we're going to go through the whole series not knowing a single thing about Nardole despite him pretty much becoming a companion. Because Moff wont add anything to him outside how he relates to River.
>>78943134
Amy was written better than....Mickey? That's probably it.

Thanks sempai
Please ask Chibnall to get Gareth back
>>78943329
Are you frustrated?
>>78943344
Love you, Capaldi man.
>>78943388
No smallfat, I'm not. Thank you for confirming your identity :^)
Anyone up for some good ol' fashioned Doctor ranking while we pass the time?
10>12>7>9>3>4>11>8>War>6>1>2>5
>>78943436
>mfw this is the second time somebody from /who/ thinks I'm Smallfat
>>78943495
1=2=3=4=5=6=7=8=War=9=10=11=12
>>78943272
>And Mickey is so much better in terms of character developement than Danny.
not really
>>78943552
Aw. :) It's a nice sight, actually. Made me smile.
>>78943466
This guy was spamming about fake news years before Trump. Did he force the meme into reality?
https://twitter.com/bbcdoctorwho/status/826170456252092416
Pls no
>>78943576
Yes, he is.
Here we go lads.
>>78943504
We don't "think" you are smallfat. We know it.
>>78943642
No.
pls no leave
>>78943683
Danny is the flattest piece of character we ever had in modern Who.
This is a nice song but where's my Capald
I don't want to finish my cup of tea before he comes on
You lied Jo Whiley, where is he?
>>78943703
No, the actor was wooden but the character was well developed and, unlike Mickey, had a purpose beyond getting cucked by the Doctor.
Peter Perrot is GOD
WE'RE ON
HE'S HERE
Also just remembered Jo Whiley is an actual fan so that's nice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77Wf9w0-bwQ
>>78943495
>>78943552
good taste
>>78943327
I'll admit, I missed a lot of Micky development. I think I have a gap of episodes between the middle of S2 and the appearance of Martha I need to catch up on.
>based Capaldick picking Another Girl Another Planet to open
Cheeky bugger, great choice too.
Of course that was picked by Capaldi, Radio 2 actually playing a good song.
>>78943282
He's doing 11
>>78943866
Also Doctor Who themed
>Capaldi loves Television too
Fucking patrician.
I seriously can't fathom why the spammer does this. Is it just trolling? Who would find this funny?
I love him so much. He should have his own radio show.
>>78943889
My theory is it's a bot, been going on for years now and the bits about Moot are still the same.
Bowie confirmed for Capaldi replacement.Oh wait.
>I will be stepping down this Christmas
FUCK YOU GO FUCK YOURSELVES ALL OF YOU
YOU PROMISED
>tfw you have the exact same taste in music as Capaldi
>>78943928
But why even create the bot?
>>78943950
>rusing this hard
He is returning.
He is returning through the dark.
And Doctor - Oh but then...
...He will tweet four times.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lKuc3faQAEs
One of Capaldman's choices on radio show tonight in UK.
>>78944017
Thanks mate, I'll have to check 'em out. Really liked this song.
>>78944017
>another girl another planet
Looks like Doctor Who tagline.
>>78944035
They are mostly famous for that song, it's one of the best rock tracks ever recorded. Also obviously related to Doctor Who, the new season in particular. Capaldi is cheeky as fuck.
>>78944017
>this will never play in the TARDIS as 12 and Clara are chilling around
>>78944073
His passion and appreciation for Who is so lovely
>>78944088
>Clara
>>78944108
>VERY fast capaldo grinning at incredible hihg speed
He sounds so happy. Staying for Series 11 confirmed?
>>78944142
Happy to be leaving.
Wtf I love Jo Whiley now
ENGIMATIC MATT
>>78944142
Yeah I think he's either announcing he's staying or not saying anything
>>78944152
>>78944142
He's finally relived to be out of Moffat's shit writing's clutches.
Talking about the paperazi
WHAT'S FOR TEA TODAY DOCTOR?
Why the fucking is he talking in past tense
He's not even done filming S10
>I've always loved Doctor Who and always will, but it's time to move on
https://twitter.com/bbcdoctorwho/status/826177724452593664
Goodbye sweet prince ;_;
So, when did you guys finally stop watching Doctor Who? For me was the Zygon refugees episode. It was not only for the episode, I found the whole season pretty boring (and the whole Series 8 was a huge disappointment), this episode was just the last nail in the coffin
Second of Capaldi's selections
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DxC0Ub6NIk
>>78944220
Fuck offerino
>>78944234
You skipped Everybody Says Hi
Thoughts so far, lads? Sounds like he's staying on, it'd be really abrupt if he suddenly announces he's leaving now. Unless he's just enjoying himself now and he's shit at segues.
Capaldi is without a doubt the coolest actor to play the Doctor
>>78944228
Good riddance, you missed the best episode ever by choosing to grow up
>>78944258
I mean Pertwee was a secret agent, but pretty much, yeah.
>>78944248
Shit, you're right
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtoXxsuikOQ
>>78944254
>lads
Nope, they've gone to QA. Nothing to see here. Night friendos.
>>78944366
I mean fucking obviously, it's Jo Whiley on Radio 2. This is comfytimes only.
>>78944364
no girls on /who/
Why does he sound so happy?
>>78944366
>not staying for Capaldi stories
>>78944411
'Cause contrary to what you plebs think, he enjoys working with Moffat
>We went to buy Doctor Who's guitar
>Doctor Who's guitar
>>78944411
>ywn be Peter Capaldi
>>78944448
The part is called Doctor Who, just not the character in universe. How is this hard to understand?
Oh my God that laugh was so cute. Why the fuck does he sound so happy? He should be tired as fuck he's been filming for 7 months straight.
>>78944448
What's the problem?
fucked up if true
>>78944482
Should we be worried?
>>78944485
Obviously only the robot was named Doctor Who since that's who died.
>>78944529
Drugs.
>>78944561
Channeling the Bowster.
Hmm...the way he promoted that Sinatra song...
>>78944599
What about it?
>Frank Sinatra
Ehhh, his other picks were great at least.
>>78944228
I wont stop watching, no matter how hard Moffatt makes staying
>song is titled That's Life
It's a message. And you know it. He's telling you to accept it right now.
>>78944651
Least favourite ep?
>>78944228
