Eva is a garbage clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in waifu faggotry and NEUROSIS. The normal anon can see this as the shit it is, and may enjoy it, hate it or be indifferent to it, but all the while recognizing that the series itself, regardless of their opinion, is plain bad.

However, these very aspects that try to smear over the shit of its core make it a breeding ground for aspie, unsociable underageb& faggots who engage in every kind of faggotry both online and in the real world. The broken, angsty characters all trying their hardest to hide from their mental issues, the SYMBOLISM, peculiar, complex machinery, the whole Freudian faggotry and everything about the Evangelion world fuels their fantasies of being a patrician, while the pity-party character backgrounds, emphasis on guilt tripping, and overall preachiness of the series make it fit just right with the mary-sueish drives of your average preteen and his sense of unwarranted self-importance towards the world. Exactly the kind of shit that makes little kiddies and underage retards eat this shit right the fuck up.

I'd say 40 minute episodes but the anime is already pretty short with 26 20 minute episodes. Maybe make it a super high budget miniseries with 13 40 minute episodes.

Completely adapt End of Evangelion for a theatrical release for the mini series finale.

I didn't like it the first time either (mostly because Shinji annoyed me and I was impatient for the plot to develop). For some reason I got the urge to rewatch it, and ended up sympathising with the characters much more strongly, as well as noticing some of the insane attention to detail that only becomes apparent on repeat viewings

The beginning goes through the motions of a typical mecha anime, albeit with way more style and nuance than you'd normally get. But all of it is basically to set up the foundations for the rest of the series.

Aesthetically, none of it feels dated. The mecha designs, the music, even the art style is timeless. The only thing that is pretty 90's is some of the civilian wardrobe choices but even then it still looks good.

I think it's got a bit of the Citizen Kane issue where the original "watershed" film doesn't seem innovative because it influenced most of what came after. But I think it's totally worth watching. Avoid the Rebuilds, though.

I was more referring to anime tv shows rather than movies. Movie-wise there's a lot of great stuff: Satoshi Kon, Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Mamoru Hosoda are all fantastic.

But anime is so commercialized and dull, formulated to hit conventions and make money rather than innovate. It's an expensive medium and the fans are willing to take a lot of bullshit so I guess I can't fault it. But I can't think of a series from the last 5 years that was really worth my time.
