Contrarians had more than enough hate on just with Based Cruise eternally rustling their jimmies. Especially in what some would deem as just a straight up Scientology movie.

Mad Max's trailer was fucking spectacular and all the production buzz suggested it would be absolute Kino.

They had to lock onto something and that something was the ill advised announcements that the Vagina Monologues writer was invited to add some thoughts to the script. They exaggerated her part intentionally to try and get a female audience into the cinema's. It worked and the viral hate campaign did nothing but get more buzz about the movie.
