>traveling to chicago for 4 days

right now I just have a list of restaurants, mostly from yelp and tripadvisor. going to try and eat deep dish pizza and hot dogs

planning on doing:
>architecture boat cruise
>seeing the bean
>skydeck chicago
>checking out navy pier

anything else i should see or do?

i'll be by myself, how do i meet people, especially girls (t. socially awkward autist)
>>
>>1286775
Field Museum to see the T-Rex
>>
>>1286775

Clint, is that you?
>>
>>1286781
thanks, i think i'll check it out

>>1286800
no
>>
Strings Ramen in chinatown is best
>>
>>1286825
thanks, i do like ramen

how would you rank places that have higher reviews online, like Wasabi and Furious Spoon? Or Slurping Turtle which has a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand recommendation?
>>
>>1286775
Boat tour is perfect

Bean is meh, but if you come here you "have to" see it

Havent done skydeck yet, but I hear it is fantastic

Navy Pier is somewhat of a tourist trap, but then again, I have lived near the city for 20 years

Hit up Chinatown on the south side

See some Museums, they are state of the art and very informative
(Except Science and Industry, thats on 55th in Hyde Park, its very far)

Walk around the loop and river north/mag mile, there will always be something going on

Lincoln park zoo is free, and its a good zoo

Let me know if you want more suggestions!
>>
I much preferred the John Hancock observatory to the Willis Tower, you're a bit lower down so you can still see the streets, less crowded and a more interesting building. The glass boxes at Willis are cool though.
>>
Not OP but I'll be in Chicago for two months or so. And I'm gonna need some weed. I'll be near Garfield Drive I believe.

So before I do all the hot shit and ask some black dude is there an easier way?
>>
>>1287152
>Near Garfield Blvd
Dude you aint getting weed there. Everything there is heroin and coke.
>>
>>1286775
Lifelong Chicagoan here.

>Pequods
>Lou Malnatis
>Portillos

Boat tour is a good time. Navy Pier is normie but worth a visit if you have never been.

>Bean
Grant Park is worth a walk around for sure. Don't forget Buckingham Fountain

North Avenue or Oak Street for beaches. You can get a Divvy bike and ride the lakefront trail pretty easily.

Don't plan on approaching girls at Downtown/River North/Lincoln Park bars.

For meeting girls in a more neighborhood setting, take the Blue Line to Wicker Park or Logan Square.

Don't look at or acknowledge bums on the train/CTA. If they say something to you, just pretend like they are not even there and they will move on.

Any other questions I'll try to look back at this thread.
>>
>>1286775
Go to the South side of Chicago and wear the latest pair of air jordans

>Don't plan on approaching girls at Downtown/River North/Lincoln Park bars.

Why do you say that?

New poster, here. Going to Chicago for my 3rd time From 8/31 to 9/3. I'm obsessed with Eric Prydz, so I'm going for him and to see the White Sox. (I want to hit every MLB stadium. Already got Wrigley.)

Other than that, I love unique night life. Anything special or cool you know of that's worth hunting down?
>>
>>1288034

White Sox stadium lacks fans but has good food. It's a fun time.

For house music, check out the Mid (you can look online to see who is playing). Prysm is really douchey but also gets good artists. Smartbar in Wrigleyville plays house music till 4 am.

As far as River North clubs, I have heard Underground is fun. Hubbard Inn is good. Stay away from Bottled Blonde and Joy District.

when people travel, do they bring dress shoes just to get into clubs?

Thanks for the suggestions. Coincidentally, I bought a ticket for the Eric Prydz after-party at The Mid not long before checking this thread. It looks really cool. Kinda mad I Googled it instead of just showing up blind.

>>1288524
It's an inconvenience, but yes, I usually do. What's more difficult for me is keeping a dress shirt or two looking nice. Sometimes I'll just wear Chuck Taylors. Of course, your millage may vary, different dress codes, etc., etc.

The photograph I included with this post is not related to the thread.
>>
>>1287146
>>1287224
thanks for the advice

how is lincoln park?
i'm regretting not booking a room nearer to the loop, looks like that's where all the attractions and restaurants i want to go to are located

>>1287148
actually the tilt thing does look nice
>>
>>1289795
The loop is touristy and boring as fuck. It's where everyone works and then leaves at 5. Do yourself a favor and get out into the city's wondefful neighborhoods. Bucktown and Wicker Park are full of vibrant nightlife and beautiful residential streets, Logan Square is hipster central with great restaurants and breweries, Andersonville is an older crowd wirh Swedish history, Lincoln Park has a free zoo and great views, the northwest side has fantastic asian food, the list goes on forever. Don't stay in the loop for more than a visit to Millennium Park and Portillos, then see the Hancock on your way to something better.
>>
>>1286775
The Museum of Science and Industry is really cool. They have an actual German U-Boat from WWII that you can go inside. I recommend it.
>>
>ctrl f Kuma's Korner
>no results
other than that I'd say you have your bases mostly covered, though if you're looking for lesser known stuff id recommend checking out Music Box (a somewhat old school movie theater on the north side) to see if theyre showing anything of interest or going to one of the smaller museums like the museum of mexican art or something like that

have fun!

what souvenirs should i bring back from chicago as gifts? i have a friend who i want to buy a gift for, and who i will see a week after i leave chicago

was thinking of buying Garrett's popcorn, but I don't know if it will taste good after a week

was also looking into Vosges chocolate
>>
>>1290103
I'd consider popcorn from nuts on clark or a cookie from dinkels though I've got now idea how long either would last you. You could also buy something from one of the local microbreweries, Revolution is one of the most hip atm I think.
>>
>>1290128
thanks for the suggestions
>>
>tfw only one on the architecture boat tour who was by themselves
>tfw no friends or gf
>>
op here
>went to highly rated restaurant
>order a Coke
>glass is filled with half inch icecubes to the brim
>watch bartender pour less than a can
>i get charged 2.25 for it
>i still tipped
should i have asked for more or something? how do i get a backbone?
>>
>>1287221
Is it good coke?
>>
>>1290103
You can ship frozen Lou Malnati's deep dish pizzas. Otherwise if your friends are into beer you could get some stuff from Half Acre or Pipeworks and wrap it up in your suitcase.
>>
>>1292436
No. Street shit from people you don't know in the U.S. is never going to be good.
>>
>>1287152
dude weed

theres a weed st. in chicago. go there
>>
>>1287224
>acknowledge bums on the train/CTA
one time i walked past one he started shouting calling me a racist bc he was black lol
>>
>>1286825
>>1286837
If you've had ramen in Japan theres no point in going
>>
>>1286775
go to second city and catch a show, hit up the olde town ale house across the street and enjoy a drink with talkative locals. hit up the billygoat (the original) under the el and watch drunk people lip sync journey with a tap handle as a mic.

theres plenty of shit to do and everyone is socially awkward so dont feel bad.
>>
>>1292741
Could you be more of a suburbanite?
>>
OP here, what do you guys think of green Mill?
>>
>tfw last night here
>went to a bar last night and drank a lot
>don't feel like doing anything tonight that involves drinking
what should i do instead?
>>
I have not bought clothing all summer and want to look fresh for school in September. I'm going to Chicago this coming Thursday.

I'll only pack one outfit and plan to buy a good amount of clothes in chicago, probably at uniqlo or wherever else I find.

Can anyone recommend other good stores or streets or thrift shops to find good clothing for someone making $11/hr 30hrs a week?
>>
>>1286775
Sounds about right. If you like seafood, a good restraunt is bubba Gump shrimp in navy pier. It's themed around the movie Forrest gump
>>
>>1292962
Green mill is great, go early if you want to get a place to sit. Stay all night, the best jazz is in the early morning hours.

>>1293390
Please be bait, there could not be a more vapid, worthless, overpriced, touristy shithole of a place to go in chicago
>>
Venture down to the South Side. You can walk around the uchicago area, go to the museum of science and industry, see some nobel prize winners walking around, a frank lloyd wright house, etc. etc. It's def off the beaten path for tourists and you can tell your friends you went to the scary south side even if you just stick around the very safe uchicago campus.

Some other restaurants that are on the slightly pricy but nice for a date,

Longman and Eagle (cool location, hit up lost lake tiki bar afterards)
Duck Inn (good and bizarre location)
Parsons Chicken and Fish (more casual)
>>
>>1288499
>baseball stadium food
>good
What did he mean by this?
>>
>>1293738
What about taking a trip down the green line to Englewood? Any worthwhile sights there?
>>
>>1293762
Poverty and violent crime
>>
>>1288034
>Why do you say that?
Because they're not going to be into you unless you got a trust fund
>>
>>1294252
How do they know I don't?
>>
>>1294266
Have at it then. I lived in L.P. for years and enjoyed it
>>
>>1294273
Any recos for cool off the radar places?
>>
>>1294277
Me again. I'm planning on exploring Wicker Park a lot, for what it's worth.
>>
>>1294277
Go to beaumont after 2am if you are /fit/ and can at least give the impression that you have money

>>1294278
Wicker park is the most overrated neighborhood in the city. I don't see why anyone likes it given how it's flooded by vagrants and gangbangers at night
>>
>>1286775
>>skydeck chicago
might save valuable hours going to the signature room for a cocktail at some late night hour instead
https://www.signatureroom.com/

I see you're not doing a museum. hrm.
>>
>>1294279
Thanks for the advice.

I'll ask you one more question.

If not Wicker, what do you recomend? i obviously don't want to spend much time downtown or around the Loop. Not Wrigeleyville either. Did that when I was younger. And I've already been around Linkin Park.

What neighborhood (or neighborhoods) is most worth exploring that I haven't done already?

Thanks again.
>>
>>1294332
Wicker park is fine, dont listen to that guy. Yes there will be some sketchy people around outside but the bars are good for the mid-late 20s crowd and you'll just be jumping into an uber anyway
>>
>>1294332
Old Town is a chill time and river north has the best parties

Do not go to wicker park. It is truly an awful place filled with very ugly people
>>
>>1294614
>river north has the best parties
I was under the impression this is touristy and has a lot of old people. "Viagra Triangle", and all that.
>>
>>1294769
Places like the Underground aren't touristy, provided you even get in
>>
>>1294841
Thanks. I'll give it a shot.
>>
>>1292411
Ask for less/no ice
>>
I've been a few times. I've always have had the most fun in lincoln park bars and parks.
>>
Currently sitting in Los Molcajetes between Irving park and Albany park. I'll be here all weekend if anyone on the citiy wants to hang out for a bit!
