From Gatwick to London, use the bus. Either National Express or Megabus.

National Express is good for cheapish fairs and fastish service. It's going to be your best option if you want to go into London not spending too much money.

When you are in London, stick to the buses if you want the cheap option. £1.50. It's fair.

The tube, sometimes may be packed, but it's the best way to get around London.
