I thought of this too, but have never tried the function myself. I dont really know how reliable it is in another country. Does it work almost the same way?

Offline maps works fairly well, used it a few times and it did a decent job. Problem is that having mobile data is often better than not just for "what ifs" google translate is nice as you can take pictures of words and google does a pretty decent job with getting you the basic translation mostly
