I'm on the East Coast near NYC, and I have about a thousand dollars to work with. On the 29th of August, I have to be home for classes.
I was toying with the idea of traveling alone and frugally for the rest of the summer. Only issue is, I'm sort of a boring dude, and I don't really know what to do in terms of finding excitement. I was considering just beach bumming it up and finding parties in the NYC and Jersey area, but is there anything more I should do?
I'm 22, and I don't have much experience in partying, let alone really traveling like this. The amount of freedom I'm given here is sort of intimidating, and I'm not sure where to start.
Go to another country. Will be dramatically cheaper and more fun. Solo travel in the US isn't great.
Easiest to get to from the US and still good for bumming around would be the riviera maya in Mexico - head down to Playa Del Carmen, stay in a social hostel there, and everything else will work itself out.

The only issue I have with leaving the US is I only have 1000 dollars, if I have to spend most of it on getting out of country I'll be fucked.
However Riviera Maya might be feasible since I could trudge in by bus if need be.
